Episode 1 - Series 1, Episode 1When DI Alex Drake is shot and lands in 1981, she comes face-to-face with DCI Gene Hunt, the relic of old fashioned policing she’d read about in Sam Tyler’s reports. Alex thinks she is in a coma and needs Hunt’s help to go after Layton, the man who shot her in 2008. She is confident she knows the rules of the game, but with no contact from the outside world Alex has to contend with a terrifying possibility.

As bombs threaten to ruin Charles and Diana’s big day, Gene needs Alex to stop being distracted and acknowledge this world has the power to hurt.

She’s the lone voice in CID, and only the link to a recent murder victim makes Gene take the investigation further. The pursuit of the attacker takes them undercover to a fancy dress boat party, but has Alex’s determination got the better of her, and is her effort to prove a point masking her judgment?

Was Martin Kennedy killed because he had proof the government was testing neutron bombs? Gene is adamant that murder has simpler motives, and a link to Alex’s mother gives him at least one suspect in an investigation that leads them onto dangerous territory.

Gene believes the culprit is Chas Cale, a blagger he crossed swords with years ago. When Chas claims he’s too old, Gene reflects on whether he too is over the hill. For once, Alex needs Gene to be strong for her. She fears she can’t solve the case alone and is desperate not to die in 1981.

Can Alex prevent Gene going off the rails just at the point when she needs to stay in control, and if she can’t, will someone die?

With Gene waylaid by a station inspection, Alex needs to use every ounce of her strength and energy to stop the elements coming together, throw a cog into the wheel of fate, and finally return home.

Episode 8 - Episode 8It's the biggest day of Alex's life: the day her parents were killed. She believes that if she can prevent this from happening she can leave the prison of 1981 and get back to her daughter Molly. With Gene waylaid by a station inspection, Alex needs to use every ounce of her strength and energy to stop the elements coming together, throw a cog into the wheel of fate, and finally return home.

Episode 9 - Series 2, Episode 1When a dead man is found in a Soho strip club, it looks like a sex game has gone wrong. So when the deceased is discovered to be a police officer, Gene and Alex are ordered to keep the case under wraps. As the case leads them onto dangerous territory, Alex finds herself in deep trouble.

Episode 10 - Series 2, Episode 2The team is on the hunt for major vehicle thief Jed Wicklow, but when a car chase leads to his death, Gene stands accused of causing it through reckless driving. Alex is adamant that there was something wrong with Jed at the wheel and wants to prove that the crash wasn't Gene's fault.

Episode 11 - Series 2, Episode 3Animal rights activists have threatened a series of attacks in London and the first victim - the daughter of a commercial laboratory owner - is in hospital. Gene orders his team not to sleep until those responsible are behind bars. Meanwhile, Alex worries that hope is fading for her survival in the present day.

Episode 12 - Series 2, Episode 4There's a visitor from Gene Hunt's old stomping ground of Manchester. Jackie Queen is a journalist who's had run-ins with Gene in the past and this time she has a surprise in store. Alex is suspicious of Jackie, and with the threat of a transfer haunting Gene, she's desperate they get to the bottom of the corruption she believes is in the force.

Episode 13 - Series 2, Episode 5When a violent burglary occurs at Alex's in-laws' house, she comes face-to-face with their son Peter - the 14-year-old future-father of Molly! Alex is desperate to help Molly's grandparents all she can, but Gene wants a big collar to bury the press stories of police corruption - and dismisses the case as trivial.

Episode 14 - Series 2, Episode 6A dead body found floating in a canal is identified as Colin Mitchell, a man recently reported missing by his glamorous wife, Donna. Gene discovers that Colin worked for loan shark Trevor Riley. Alex can't shake the feeling that Donna is hiding something, but her profiling skills start to fail as she undergoes surgery back in the present day.

Episode 15 - Series 2, Episode 7What looks like a simple drugs drop at a building site turns into a murder case when CID find a body buried in concrete. There are many that think the site owner, Michael Lafferty, is crooked - an eager young PC who thinks he's paying off his superior officers, plus several of the Polish workers that he exploits. All the while, Alex is waiting, convinced that she's recovering in the hospital and will wake up soon.

Episode 16 - Series 2, Episode 8Alex has caught a hospital infection and knows the doctors in 2008 are losing hope for her. When an informant is tortured and killed, Gene is convinced that a major blag is about to happen and wants CID to fire on all cylinders to stop it. Alex desperately needs Gene's help, but to get it would involve telling him the truth about who she is and where she's from.

Episode 17 - Series 3, Episode 1The team is working on the kidnap of a young girl, Dorothy Blonde, who was abducted as her stepmother walked her to school. With a £50,000 ransom demanded for Dotty's life the team has to work fast. However, Dotty's father, David, wants to go it alone and when newly promoted Ray panics while running the sting, it seems the family may have been better off without CID's involvement. Gene is forced to put his career on the line as he's unable to stand by and watch a young girl lose her life.

Episode 18 - Series 3, Episode 2When DC Chris Skelton opens CID's post and discovers a human hand, DCI Gene Hunt and his team find they have a murder to solve. The trail leads them to a dating agency and Alex soon finds herself posing as a lonely single when she goes undercover. Later, when Gene discovers that Alex is also investigating what really happened to Sam Tyler, he is forced to intervene.

Episode 19 - Series 3, Episode 3It's the run up to the 1983 General Election and pressure is mounting on DCI Gene Hunt and his team as they investigate a series of politically motivated arson attacks. A local fireman is eventually identified as the prime suspect. Meanwhile, DI Alex Drake is still being haunted by the police officer with the 6-6-20 epaulette numbers and is struggling to work out why he keeps visiting her.

Episode 20 - Series 3, Episode 4DCI Gene Hunt and his team, DI Alex Drake, DI Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton, are hot on the tail of a van they believe contains a large amount of heroin. When the Quattro blocks the van's escape route, the team are faced with a woman brandishing a sawn-off shotgun, but bullish Gene shows no fear and heads straight over to take on the female blagger. However, things suddenly take a strange turn when Gene seems to let her escape.

Episode 21 - Series 3, Episode 5When DCI Gene Hunt's former Manchester colleagues, DCI Litton and DI Bevan, turn up on his patch he immediately smells a rat. They're in pursuit of northern comic Frank Hardwick who's wanted for stealing 2,000 pounds from the Police Widows Fund. However, their desperation to track him down leaves Gene and DI Alex Drake suspicious of their real motive.

Episode 22 - Series 3, Episode 6All hell has broken loose at Fenchurch East prison; the inmates are rioting and DCI Gene Hunt is ready to go in all guns blazing to teach the lags a lesson. However, things don't go to plan; the riot team are hugely outnumbered, and in the chaos of the retreat Sgt Viv James is left behind. Chris and Ray are sent in undercover to get Viv out, but they too soon find themselves in mortal danger.

Episode 23 - Series 3, Episode 7DCI Jim Keats has almost finished his report into Gene Hunt and his team, but he's still pushing Alex to find out what really happened to Sam Tyler. When reports come in of a disturbance at an ANC illegal drinking den Gene heads in all guns blazing. The men at the club are quick to dismiss the disturbance as nothing, but when DI Ray Carling spots blood on the floor and discovers a dead body, it leads Gene into a murder investigation.

Episode 24 - Series 3, Episode 8Tension mounts in the final episode of Ashes to Ashes as DCI Gene Hunt and his team are investigating a diamond heist following the murder of three London gang members. But DI Alex Drake is distracted and, with encouragement from DCI Jim Keats, she decides to pursue her own investigation to the bitter end - did Gene Hunt really murder Sam Tyler?
