Season 1 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Paradise Lost

1971. Woogonga, south coast of NSW. A sweeping bay and a secluded beach where best mates TROTTER and SNAPPER, and their surfer friends, must choose between loyalty to one another or building their own dreams.

Episode 2 - Oscar

It’s now May 1972, several months since the wedding. With their caravan rolled into the ocean by Snapper (an act he steadfastly refuses to own up to), Tracy and Trotter are now living in a tiny fishing shed attached to the LightWave “factory” (actually just two sewing machines operated by Jules, Trotter and Tracy). Their relationship is tense. With interest accruing, Trotter now owes Snapper $510 but this debt has an emotional as well as an actual load on the fledgling marriage.

Episode 3 - Ride the White Horse

DECEMBER 1972. Buddy and Hunter are back in Southern California, living in a surfside party house. In the middle of a party, Hunter’s high school sweetheart CEE CEE arrives with a disconcerting message to go and see his parents. In Woogonga, Tracy and Trotter are finally in a great place with their marriage, but things get tricky when Margaux arrives back in town, this time on the arm of Sharpie.

Episode 4 - Lazy Susan

January 1973. Dimma rots in juvenile detention. When Snapper visits, Dimma reassures him that he told the cops he met the guys who gave him the drugs on a beach. Snapper is off the hook but filled with guilt and shame. Tracy and Reg both refuse to talk to him as he continues to let Dimma take the rap for his crimes. In response, Snapper parties hard, full of self hate.

Episode 5 - The Dream Factory

JUNE 1973. Dimma is released. He’s hard, defiant – a different kid now, not interested in surfing anymore. Tracy and Trotter take him in but when he sees a Bare Feet wetsuit left for him by Snapper, he goes around to return it. Snapper is dead to him now.

Episode 6 - China White

July 1973. It seems like Hunter and Buddy have failed. The supplier won’t make the shorts without the full amount paid upfront, and they can’t work their cash flow around juggling having the shorts made, paying Trotter and supplying Cee Cee’s uncle. Hunter wants to accept defeat.

Episode 7 - Can You Keep a Secret?

July 1973. Trotter arrives back from the city but Tracy has locked him out – she tells him that she saw him with Margaux and it’s all over! Trotter tries to talk to her but it’s no good, Tracy is not ready to talk. Meanwhile Snapper meets with ARTHUR FORMAN, the owner of a large sporting goods chain who is looking to sponsor next year’s Bare Feet Classic. When Forman arrives, he tells Snapper than he’s not just interested in sponsoring the comp – he’s also looking to invest in Bare Feet.

Episode 8 - Majority Share

July 1973. The fallout from Bali spreads across the world, as Mac shows up at Bare Feet, weirder than ever and clearly on the run from something. Snapper knows deep down that one way or another Mac is here to call in the “favour” he did him with the heroin and keeps his presence a secret while he works out what to do.
