Episode 1 - Episode 1Recently made redundant Leo, twenty-six but still living at home with domineering mother Pam and cowed father Tony, joins feckless brother James for a night out where he meets the older Judy. Judy explains that she was born a man and had a sex change operation but Liam is not put off and the couple are keen to keep seeing each other.

Episode 2 - Episode 2Whilst in the pub with Leo Judy meets Geoff, who recognizes her from when she was a man. When Leo's family turns up Judy swears Geoff to secrecy but Peggy's arrival threatens exposure though she keeps quiet. Judy's sister Jackie's outrageous flirting with Geoff causes concern but nonetheless Judy keeps her secret despite Pam's stated belief that she is too old for her son.

Episode 3 - Episode 3Judy and Leo attend an art exhibition where he is overwhelmed by the representation of male genitalia and then go to a bowling alley where he is impressed by her reaction to bullies. Pam on the other hand is not impressed when Peggy and Jackie drop in unannounced at her hair salon and needs Tony's help in getting rid of them.

Episode 4 - Episode 4With Pam and Tony away Judy and Leo are about to spend their first night together but Leo gets cold feet when he sees a picture of Judy before her operation. The relationship seems doomed until Tony surprises his son with a revelation and words of wisdom, which save the day. Elsewhere James and Jackie brighten up an under-privileged young kid's birthday.

Episode 5 - Episode 5Leo goes for a job as a car salesman with Judy's friend Geoff but his honesty and his defence of Judy against Geoff's snide remarks ensure that the job is terminated after a day. Meanwhile Peggy arranges with James to hold Judy's fortieth birthday party at his house and surprises him when she and Tony reveal that they know about Judy's past life.

Episode 6 - Episode 6As the families prepare for Judy's birthday party Leo proposes but Judy, thinking that he is joking, turns him down and a crushed Leo tells his mother Judy's secret. This leads to a heart to heart between the two women, a raucous birthday party and a decision that Judy and Leo must make in order for it to be a happy birthday.
