An age old feud between the Ewings and the Barnes starts up again when Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes reveal the shocking news to their families they have married. J.R. Ewing, Bobby's older brother, seeks to break the newlyweds up by using ranch hand Ray Krebbs, who once dated Pamela.

Cliff Barnes flys his father, Digger, to Dallas to show him how he's getting even with the Ewings but Digger's sudden medical problem places a cloud over Cliff, Pam, and even Sue Ellen's new baby. A doctor's examination discloses that Digger has a genetic disorder that has not only been passed to his children but also to their offspring which could prove fatal to John Ewing III if Cliff is actually the father.

  

Episode 33 - Season 3, Episode 4: Secrets

Lucy's mother tries to re-establish some understanding with her daughter while Pamela, already depressed with the reality of the Barnes' family genetic disorder, suddenly has to cope with the news that she is pregnant. Valene employs Bobby to urge Lucy to meet with her as Pamela tries to decide whether to tell her husband the news, as well as her horrible secret, or decide on the fate of her unborn baby alone.

Kristin easily convinces J.R. to give her a summer job in his office as she openly vies for his attention and Bobby learns about Pam's pregnancy before she can make a decision about getting an abortion. As Bobby delights in the news that he's going to become a father, J.R. has his hands full as he tries to consummate the biggest oil deal of his life as well as begin his own kind of relationship with Kristin, Sue Ellen's sister.

  

Episode 35 - Season 3, Episode 6: The Dove Hunt

On a hunting trip in Louisiana, Jock finds himself the target of revenge from a man he doesn't even remember and at home Ellie is afraid that she might be facing surgery. Jock and J.R. are wounded by a sniper's bullets while hunting and with their vehicle sabotaged, Bobby and Ray have to walk to town for help. Thinking he might not recover, Jock reveals a secret to J.R. that he has been hiding from Ellie since they were married.

  

Episode 36 - Season 3, Episode 7: The Lost Child

Bobby finds himself getting attached to Luke Middens, the young son of one of the hired hands, which only makes Pam's efforts to tell Bobby the truth about their unborn child even more difficult. Eventually she is forced to confess. Meanwhile, J.R. becomes suspicious of Sue Ellen's frequent trips to town and, when she refuses to acknowledge her activities, he hires a private detective to follow her - and is very unhappy with what he learns.

At the annual Ewing sponsored rodeo, Sue Ellen finds herself drawn to Dusty Farlow, a cowboy participant, and Digger Barnes holds good on his threat to see "his" grandson while J.R. and Kristin have a little game plan all their own. J.R. feels threatened by Sue Ellen's sudden enthusiasm for life once more as she openly displays interest for Dusty, while Lucy in turn forces Ray to deal with a painful situation he tried to forget.

Ellie is afraid to tell Jock about the lump in her breast after he reveals he was married before and left his first wife when she became mentally ill, so Ellie is afraid Jock will leave her also if the lump requires a mastectomy. J.R. works and schemes with Alan Beam to deal with Cliff.

Lucy decides that Alan Beam is the man for her after she witnesses him standing up to J.R. without knowing it was a fight staged by the two of them to further convince Cliff Barnes of Beam's loyalty. Lucy makes an obvious play for Alan, who sees her as his ticket to riches, while Pam accuses Bobby of trying to ruin her brother and accidentally learns from Cliff about J.R.'s secret Asian oil deal.

J.R. is caught from all sides when a typhoon delays the oil drilling in Asia as his bank loan becomes due, then Bobby discovers that J.R. has mortgaged Southfork ranch and he is forced to tell Jock and Ellie that they may lose everything. J.R. believes that once Cliff Barnes resigns his post as head of the Office of Land Management, the banks will extend their loan deadline, but again, he's mistaken. When the efforts of all the Ewing men seem to have failed, Ellie makes a supreme sacrifice in an effort to save Southfork.

  

Episode 42 - Season 3, Episode 13: Mother of the Year

Sue Ellen's avoidance of her own baby becomes a source of conflict between her and J.R., and between Bobby and Pam, who have begun to think of the child as her own. Meanwhile, seeing the pain Miss Ellie is going through as workmen prepare to pump oil out of Southfork, Jock decides to sell the Asian oil leases even though it means losing millions, and J.R. tries to stop him if at all possible.

  

Episode 43 - Season 3, Episode 14: Return Engagements

Ellie's sadness on the occasion of the birthday of Gary, her missing son, quickly changes to jubilation when she learns he and Valene are both back in Dallas and plan to be re-married. Ellie plans to keep the news of the wedding a secret from J.R., who's on a business trip with Kristin, but Sue Ellen delights in giving him the news as well as telling Rudy Millington, Kristin's boyfriend, where to find her.

  

Episode 44 - Season 3, Episode 15: Love and Marriage

J.R. decides that bringing Bobby back into Ewing Oil is the best way to keep Jock out of the office and J.R. also aims to get Pam a promotion to keep Bobby's mind off anything but his troubled marriage. Pam is using her work to hide from her own unhappiness while Ray seems to have found happiness at least when Donna Culver reenters his life.

  

Episode 45 - Season 3, Episode 16: Power Play

Alan Beam's "romance" with Lucy is discovered by Kristin who believes once J.R. knows about it he will quickly get rid of the ambitious young lawyer but J.R. fools everyone by encouraging Alan to follow through with his plan to marry Lucy. Lucy puts off deciding about Alan's proposal until J.R. orders her not to see him again then she makes a startling announcement.

  

Episode 46 - Season 3, Episode 17: Paternity Suit

After Cliff Barnes announces he is quitting the race for Congress, Digger returns to the bottle and drunkenly tells a reporter that Cliff is really the father of Sue Ellen's baby. Jock Ewing insists the family sue Cliff, who countersues for custody of his son forcing Sue Ellen, J.R., and Cliff to take blood tests to prove once and for all who is the baby's real father.

  

Episode 47 - Season 3, Episode 18: Jenna's Return

Sue Ellen actively sees Dusty, Pam leaves town and an angry husband who runs into Jenna, an old girl friend, while Ray ponders if he and Donna have anything in common besides their love. J.R. finds himself angry and jealous of Sue Ellen's unexplained nights out as Kristin tries to take advantage of the situation and permanently enters J.R.'s life.

  

Episode 48 - Season 3, Episode 19: Sue Ellen's Choice

Sue Ellen is being pressured by Dusty to leave J.R., Pam and Bobby's marriage continues to strain towards the breaking point and Donna makes a last attempt to get Ray to change his mind about marriage. Sue Ellen makes her decision and asks J.R. for a divorce but his reaction is not at all what she expects. Meanwhile, Pam is surprised when Jenna makes a surprise visit and declares her intentions about Bobby.

  

Episode 49 - Season 3, Episode 20: Second Thoughts

J.R. pushes Alan Beam to pressure Lucy into setting a wedding date so they'll move to Chicago but Jock messes up J.R.'s plans by securing for Alan a law partnership in Dallas. Kristin tries to help J.R. by telling Lucy about Alan's girlfriend but the plan backfires and Lucy announces a date for the wedding.

  

Episode 50 - Season 3, Episode 21: Divorce: Ewing Style

Sue Ellen takes great pains to appear the perfect wife and mother in preparation for her divorce action but when J.R. realizes what she is planning, he decides to take a strong counterattack. J.R. is furious when he learns Sue Ellen has a private detective following him on his nocturnal visits and decides the best way to keep her from leaving him with their son is to prove that Sue Ellen is drinking again.

  

Episode 51 - Season 3, Episode 22: Jock's Trial, Pt. 1

As a new assistant district attorney, Cliff Barnes jumps at the chance to work on the investigation of the body found at Southfork, obviously murdered many years ago, while Sue Ellen fights to convince the family that she is not drinking again. Cliff's investigation unearths some new clues which tie the murder closer and closer to Jock, while Sue Ellen prepares herself to leave J.R. and her baby.

  

Episode 52 - Season 3, Episode 23: Jock's Trial, Pt. 2

While Jock faces his murder trial, other family members are distracted with their own problems, as Sue Ellen drinks to forget Dusty's death, Pam watches Digger slowly deteriorate in a hospital, and J.R. fears his testimony will incriminate his father. The family hires famed criminal attorney Scotty Demerest only to be told that Cliff Barnes' case against Jock is dangerously incriminating and the family prepares for the worst.

  

Episode 53 - Season 3, Episode 24: The Wheeler Dealer

With most of the family visiting Jock's first wife in a Colorado sanitarium, J.R. uses the time to try to set up an even bigger oil deal with the now profitable Asian wells, while Sue Ellen and Pam deal with their separate grieves in very different ways. Pam becomes determined to learn about her mother, long-believed dead, and Sue Ellen again seeks liquor for her solace, which pleases J.R. in his plan to rid himself of his wife.

  

Episode 54 - Season 3, Episode 25: A House Divided

J.R.'s selling of the Asian oil leases before news of the fields' nationalization is made public wipes out the fortunes of Ewing Oil's former business associates and also creates untold havoc within the family. J.R.'s business dealings so disgust Bobby that he and Pamela move out of Southfork and Sue Ellen decides to stop drinking and wage her own battle against J.R.'s efforts to send her back to the sanitarium, while Cliff Barnes also plans his own revenge against J.R.

  

Episode 55 - Season 4, Episode 1: No More Mister Nice Guy, Pt. 1

J.R. lies close to death as the Ewing family reassembles to wait for news of his fate and the police search for clues and suspects in the shooting. All hope for J.R. to regain consciousness and the possibility that he will be able to shed some light on the identity of his assailant.

  

Episode 56 - Season 4, Episode 2: No More Mister Nice Guy, Pt. 2

As J.R. undergoes his second operation, Bobby takes over Ewing Oil with Jock's blessing. Sue Ellen tries to combat the guilt that makes her believe she may have shot her husband in a drunken stupor as she unsuccessfully fights against the operation that could either let J.R. walk again or cost him his life. Alan Beam is brought back to Dallas by the police, Cliff Barnes is taken into custody, and Marilee Stone institutes a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Ewings. Lucy meets and is frustrated by a poor medical student who resists her advances.

  

Episode 57 - Season 4, Episode 3: Nightmare

J.R. fights to overcome the helplessness of his paralysis as Bobby finds that his efforts to run Ewing Oil are thwarted by J.R., even from his hospital bed. One thing that J.R. can't control is the fact that Miss Ellie finds the gun used to shoot her son and the evidence points to someone in the immediate family. Meanwhile, Sue Ellen tries to deal with her continuing nightmares that indicate that she is the one who shot her husband. Otherwise, J.R.'s power is felt throughout Dallas as Cliff Barnes gets suspended from his job and Bobby is frustrated in his efforts to run Ewing Oil.

  

Episode 58 - Season 4, Episode 4: Who Done It?

Sue Ellen's fingerprints are identified on the gun that was used to shoot J.R. and she is arrested and jailed in the shooting of her husband. She is further devastated when the Ewings abandon her, leaving her to languish in jail. After bail is mysteriously posted from an unknown source, Sue Ellen seeks solace from her sister, Kristin. She also seeks answers to the extent of her guilt through hypnosis sessions with her psychiatrist, Dr. Ellby.

  

Episode 59 - Season 4, Episode 5: Taste of Success

Bobby, Ewing Oil's new president, finds the power intoxicating, which promotes apprehension in both Pamela and J.R., but for different reasons. Bobby works hard to buy an oil refinery, something Jock has always wanted and which J.R. could never accomplish. When J.R. learns of his intentions he tries to sabotage Bobby's plan which leads to another inevitable clash between the two brothers.

  

Episode 60 - Season 4, Episode 6: The Venezuelan Connection

The conflict between J.R. and Bobby escalates as Bobby refuses to step down as president of Ewing Oil. Jock finds himself helplessly caught in the middle of the conflict between his two sons because Bobby seems to be doing a better job than J.R. for Ewing Oil, even making a deal for Venezuelan oil to supply the new refinery. Meanwhile, Pam continues to search for her mother and Lucy tries to introduce Mitch to her friends with disastrous results.

  

Episode 61 - Season 4, Episode 7: The Fourth Son

The sinking of an oil tanker and the loss of 600,000 gallons of crude oil has J.R. delighted but to Bobby it's only a minor inconvenience until he discovers that the oil was not insured and the loss could total over $18,000,000 for Ewing Oil. At the ranch Ray greets a very unwelcome guest, his father, Amos Krebbs, whom he hasn't seen or heard from since he was 3 and who has some very disturbing news for the entire Ewing family.

  

Episode 62 - Season 4, Episode 8: Trouble At Ewing 23

An extortionist threatening to blow up Ewing 23 gives J.R. an opportunity to put a halt on his fading fortunes with the company and the family by out maneuvering Bobby. In the meantime, Ray has to come to grips with his new found identity and face the fact he may be losing Donna to Cliff Barnes.

  

Episode 63 - Season 4, Episode 9: The Prodigal Mother

Pamela Ewing believes she has at last found her mother, Lucy asks Mitch to marry her, and J.R. closes in on what he thinks is his brother's reckless running of Ewing Oil. The woman Pam thinks is her mother dashes all hopes of a reconciliation and Pam abandons her quest. In the meantime, Lucy and Mitch defy all of the built-in pitfalls to their romance and J.R. stumbles onto a scheme which he intends to use to put Bobby in trouble with their father.

  

Episode 64 - Season 4, Episode 10: Executive Wife

J.R. encourages his father to consumate a business deal, fully aware that the venture will conflict with his brother's investment plans and leave Ewing Oil with a serious cash flow problem under Bobby's leadership. Meanwhile, Pam, feeling she places a poor second to her husband's work, receives the attention she is lacking from Bobby and Lucy makes an appointment which is unsettling to the Ewing clan.

  

Episode 65 - Season 4, Episode 11: End of the Road, Pt. 1

J.R.'s attention to Lucy's future sister-in-law is almost enough to divert his intention of getting Bobby's job as head of Ewing Oil, but he is quick to capitalize on his brother's rash actions. Mitch's sister and mother arrive for the upcoming wedding and J.R. takes an immediate interest in the new arrivals, which worries Sue Ellen. Bobby finds himself in a tough position after he enters into an oil drilling agreement which will put the company back on good terms with the cartel, even though he knows that Jock has already invested its capital in land development. J.R. delights in the bind in which his brother has placed the company and investigates a scheme of his own to make Bobby look bad in their father's eyes.

  

Episode 66 - Season 4, Episode 12: End of the Road, Pt. 2

Events at Lucy and Mitch's wedding at Southfork have far more impact on the Ewing family than is apparent to the assembled guests. Sue Ellen disocvers that J.R. is much too friendly with Mitch's sister and consequently makes her own play for an old boyfriend. J.R. is not as delighted as he expected to be when Bobby resigns as president of Ewing Oil and Miss Ellie shocks Jock by accusing him of behavior for which she can never forgive him.

  

Episode 67 - Season 4, Episode 13: Making of a President

J.R. may have met his match in a high pressure public relations woman whom he hires to improve his tarnished image as he resumes the reins of Ewing Oil. The prospect of a national image as the All-American business man is attractive to J.R. but even more so is the provocative woman who proposes working to replace his horns with a halo. Meanwhile, J.R. is confused by Bobby's actions after giving up the presidency of the company, as is Pam, whom Sue Ellen discovers having a rendezvous with a male business associate. At Southfork, coolness prevails as Miss Ellie is unforgiving with Jock for his part in the recent events in the Ewing family.

  

Episode 68 - Season 4, Episode 14: Start the Revolution With Me

J.R. takes steps to re-establish his power and increase his wealth, even if it means reshaping history and violating the laws of the land. His campaign for power puts J.R. further under the influence of Leslie Stewart, who, much to his frustration, keeps her new client at arm's length. He also goes ahead with his plans to topple the government which confiscated his foreign oil fields even though it could lead to prison if he is caught. Bobby's ambition to purchase a solar energy company again alienates him from Pam and Sue Ellen combats Leslie by resuming an old friendship with Clint Ogden. Cliff Barnes is disappointed by Donna Culver and Miss Ellie continues her resentment of Ray's influence with Jock.

  

Episode 69 - Season 4, Episode 15: The Quest

J.R.'s conniving affects the lives of Bobby, Pam, Cliff, Donna, and Ray, but Sue Ellen is ignored as he refuses to acknowledge the fact that she is being followed. J.R.'s influence seems to have no bounds as he works to make sure that Cliff Barnes does not get chosen to run for public office. When his plans backfire and draw in Bobby and Pam he is even more pleased at what fortune has brought him, which even includes an implied promise from Leslie Stewart. In the meantime, Sue Ellen can't get anyone to believe that she is being followed and J.R. could not care less, so she takes matters into her own hands.

  

Episode 70 - Season 4, Episode 16: LoverCome Back

Luck seems to be following J.R. as his foreign coup brings the cartel back to Ewing Oil to please his father but Jock has his own surprise for the family. Romance is still alive but not all is well in the Ewing family as Donna Culver and Ray are reunited and plan to marry. Mitch discovers that Lucy has been lying to him and Sue Ellen is shocked to find Dusty Farlow still alive but unwilling to resume their old relationship.

  

Episode 71 - Season 4, Episode 17: The New Mrs. Ewing

Donna Culver becomes the new Mrs. Ewing as she and Ray marry. The newlyweds' happiness is not reflected in the rest of the Ewing family as the cold war between Jock and Miss Ellie escalates. Bobby forms a new alliance with Cliff Barnes but his growing jealousy over Pam compels him to a confrontation with Alex Ward. Lucy is happy to win the title of Miss Young Dallas which again makes Mitch feel inferior. And Leslie Stewart succeeds in driving a wedge between J.R. and the cartel to further her own ambitions.

  

Episode 72 - Season 4, Episode 18: Mark of Cain

J.R. succumbs to the cunning Leslie Stewart, who now knows she has the head of Ewing Oil right where she wants him. While Leslie reels in her catch, Bobby is caught in the middle of Jock and Miss Ellie's feud. He is put in the same uncomfortable position while taking his new place on the senate committee which will decide the future of Takapa. Pam enters a new phase in the relationship with her and Cliff's mother. Sue Ellen continues to seek comfort from Clint Ogden and the new "Young Miss Dallas" makes life very difficult for Mitch.

  

Episode 73 - Season 4, Episode 19: The Gathering Storm

Discord haunts the head of the Ewing clan as Jock threatens to sell the company business if Miss Ellie divorces him. Jock and Ellie become even more estranged when they learn Bobby is on the senate committee investigating the Takapa development project. J.R. manipulates Jock into declaring he'd sell Ewing Oil if he and Ellie are divorced. Lucy's "Young Miss Dallas" career is actively driving a wedge into her marriage to Mitch. Cliff gets wind of J.R.'s involvement in the Asian Oil scam while Pam warns her mother about Cliff's motives. Clint urges Sue Ellen to divorce J.R.

  

Episode 74 - Season 4, Episode 20: Ewing vs. Ewing

Donna and Ray try to reconcile Jock and Miss Ellie but find there is more to their discontent than the Takapa project. Miss Ellie has consulted an attorney regarding divorce and J.R. accelerates his efforts to sell out Ewing Oil. Leslie Stewart's past performances are revealed when her ex-husband shows up in Dallas. Bobby stuns the senate hearings on Tapaka and the differences between Mitch and Lucy grow wider.

  

Episode 75 - Season 4, Episode 21: New Beginnings

Jock and Miss Ellie's reconciliation results in a second honeymoon for them and the stalling of J.R.'s scheme to sell Ewing Oil. Westar Oil's Jeremy Wendell plots revenge on J.R. for reneging on their deal and Donna threatens J.R. after he sets up Ray for a falling out with the family. Sue Ellen meets Clint's wife and Leslie earns some accolades from her ex-husband for her manipulations of J.R.

  

Episode 76 - Season 4, Episode 22: Full Circle

Kristin Shepard returns to Southfork and reveals another scheme. Sue Ellen meets with Dusty again and Lucy moves out on Mitch. Cliff uses Westar's help in building evidence against J.R. and hands it over to Bobby's senate committee. J.R. consults a lawyer about custody of John Ross and Rebecca and Cliff meet at last.

  

Episode 77 - Season 4, Episode 23: Ewing-Gate

In the season finale J.R. faces the possible loss of Ewing Oil and a jail sentence for his role in the Asian oil scandal. J.R. also has to deal with a blackmail scheme by Kristin Shepard and attempts by Sue Ellen to take John Ross away from him which lead up to a horrifying discovery by Cliff Barnes at Southfork.

  

Episode 78 - Season 5, Episode 1: Missing Heir

J.R. is a prime suspect for murder as the mystery of the body in the Southfork swimming pool is unraveled. Both Cliff and J.R. accuse each other of the foul play involved in this misdeed.

  

Episode 79 - Season 5, Episode 2: Gone, But Not Forgotten

J.R. and Cliff Barnes face each other at the inquest held to establish the facts behind the death in the Southfork swimming pool. J.R. has other problems on his mind as he plots to recover the custody of his son while Cliff is faced with the fact that he apparently is washed up in Dallas with even Afton Cooper turning her back on him. Lucy refuses to give up on her marriage to Mitch and looks to Donna for advice and the Ewings find that Clayton Farlow and his son, Dusty, can be powerful adversaries.

  

Episode 80 - Season 5, Episode 3: Showdown At San Angelo

With the help of Miss Ellie, J.R. gains entry to the ranch domain of Clayton Farlow. In order to see John Ross, J.R. cons his mother into letting him accompany her to the Southern Cross and then tries to use her as a shield to snatch his son and return to Southfork. Back in Dallas, Afton helps her brother, Mitch, celebrate his graduation from medical school while Lucy struggles desperately to find ways of salvaging her marriage to him.

  

Episode 81 - Season 5, Episode 4: Little Boy Lost

Even Miss Ellie seems to have lost all patience with J.R., which could severely hamper him in the custody fight for his son. As J.R. prepares to challenge Sue Ellen for temporary custody of John Ross, his plans for discrediting her backfire. Meanwhile, Bobby desperately tries to find an adoptive child for Pam and himself as his wife's emotional stability declines to the extent where she obviously needs medical help.

  

Episode 82 - Season 5, Episode 5: The Sweet Smell of Revenge

J.R. uses his power to try and force the Farlows to stop protecting Sue Ellen and John Ross. Unknown to J.R., Sue Ellen's relationship with Dusty is already being adversely affected by his feelings of inadequacy. Bobby is having troubles of his own, Pam has a life-threatening emotional breakdown and he has to deal with a possible extortionist after receiving a baffling piece of mail. Cliff Barnes' new role as head of Wentworth Tool and Die does not sit well with his new found half-sister, Katherine, and Mitch considers a new approach to his medical career in the hope of getting Lucy back.

  

Episode 83 - Season 5, Episode 6: The Big Shut Down

In his vendetta against the Farlows for harboring Sue Ellen and his son, J.R. puts Ewing Oil on the line by secretly attempting to borrow $200 million to dry up the supply of oil to the Farlow refineries. Bobby buys information about Kristin's baby while his wife meets her half-sister in the hospital where Pam is under Dr. Conrad's care. Ray decides to try his business project alone when Punk Anderson is forced to pull out until an uneasy Donna convinces him to let her be his partner.

  

Episode 84 - Season 5, Episode 7: Blocked

J.R.'s scheming seems to be backfiring when his efforts to force the Farlows to stop harboring Sue Ellen and his son don't work and the stockpile of crude oil he is withholding from the Farlow refineries threatens the Ewing fortunes. Dr. Conrad reports that Pam could be heading for a serious depression and Bobby continues to gather information about the identity of the father of Kristin's child. Lucy is delighted that Mitch will remain close to her in Dallas as an intern with Dr. Waring and Donna and Ray inspect the land on which they plan to build townhouses.

  

Episode 85 - Season 5, Episode 8: The Split

The Ewing family learns that Jock has instituted a plan which dramatically affects their relationships and the future of Ewing Oil. Most affected by Jock's new scheme is J.R. whose freehanded ways with the company could be at an end. Bobby declines to run for reelection to the senate and receives more information about Kristin's past. Pam's emotional stability seems improved but Dr. Conrad remains very concerned and Donna's book is accepted for publication but she doesn't know that Ray has run into trouble on their development project.

  

Episode 86 - Season 5, Episode 9: Five Dollars a Barrel

A triumphant Cliff Barnes forces J.R. to submit his demands for Ewing Oil property or face foreclosure on the note which Barnes now holds. J.R. tries to solidify his power base in Ewing Oil by plotting to acquire more voting shares but Gary and Ray refuse to be coerced. Ray is facing a serious business setback as Donna, unaware of her husband's dilemma, flies to meet with her new publisher. Bobby's investigation of Kristin's past turns up startling information which links her to J.R. even after she had fled Dallas.

  

Episode 87 - Season 5, Episode 10: Starting Over

Miss Ellie discovers that J.R.'s irresponsible wheeling and dealing has put Ewing Oil on the brink of financial disaster. With the intention of helping Ray out of his own financial crisis, Ellie tries to loan him money from the Ewing account and is shocked at its condition. J.R. desperately consults a stock broker about going public with Ewing Oil to rid it of Cliff Barnes' note. Meanwhile, Bobby is stunned when he finally learns the truth about Kristin's baby, while Pam arranges to get discharged from the hospital against Dr. Conrad's advice.

  

Episode 88 - Season 5, Episode 11: Waterloo At Southfork

J.R.'s position at Ewing Oil hangs in the balance when Ellie takes matters into her own hands. An angry, determined Miss Ellie calls the family together to vote on whether J.R. should be removed as the company's president when it looks like he will be forced to default on his loan. Meanwhile, J.R. plots to gain custody of his son now that Sue Ellen has left the protection of the Farlows and Bobby becomes aware of the difficulties he and Pam have ahead of them in adopting Kristin's child without Pam learning of its parentage. Ray has no choice but to pull out of the townhouse development deal, leaving Donna angered by his refusal to confide in her.

  

Episode 89 - Season 5, Episode 12: Barbecue Two

Miss Ellie plans the annual Ewing Barbecue to coincide with Jock's expected return to Southfork. The barbecue gets underway with all of the intrigues inherent at most of the big Ewing functions. J.R. and Sue Ellen find a renewed interest in each other while Cliff Barnes realizes that he may still love Sue Ellen. Lucy is annoyed when Mitch is called away by a patient and Ray gets drunk and embarrasses Donna.

  

Episode 90 - Season 5, Episode 13: The Search

The Ewings are unable to accept the fact that their father, Jock, could be dead, and J.R., Bobby, and Ray fly to South America to see the crash site and determine his fate. In South America the Ewing sons find an injured man at the crash site who tells them his small plane collided with a helicopter which crashed into the lake. Ray and Bobby dive into the lake and find pieces of a helicopter and evidence that their father was a passenger. It is J.R. who has the most trouble accepting the reality of his father's mortality.

  

Episode 91 - Season 5, Episode 14: Denial

Jock's death has a devastating effect on J.R. and Bobby has to cover for himself as well as his brother in running Ewing Oil. J.R. is unable to deal even with the simplest of business demands in his grief. In the meantime, the rest of the family is puzzled at Miss Ellie's calmness in dealing with her husband's death and Bobby realizes that she is refusing to accept its reality. Cliff, ecstatic at his victory over J.R., tries to renew his relationship with Sue Ellen, who is having troubles coping with her new single life. Ray and Donna's marriage begins to fall apart with Donna's continued success as a writer and Ray's increasing depression over being a failure, and a drunken J.R. terrifies Sue Ellen by demanding Jock's only grandson be returned to Southfork.

  

Episode 92 - Season 5, Episode 15: Head of the Family

With J.R.'s continued absence from the business and Ray's apathy and negligence toward the running of the ranch, Bobby is both struggling to keep Ewing Oil afloat without the authority to make decisions and trying to keep the operation of Southfork running smoothly. Bobby tries to convince Ellie to let him take over as temporary President of Ewing Oil until J.R. recovers from Jock's death but Ellie vehemently refuses putting added pressure on Bobby.

  

Episode 93 - Season 5, Episode 16: The Phoenix

A recovered J.R. brings John Ross to the Ewing Oil offices to introduce him to what he hopes is his son's future. Later, when he tells Sue Ellen about it, she is far from delighted. Lucy's photography sessions continue with Roger becoming increasingly obsessive. Ellie becomes aware of Ray's continued negligence toward the ranch and angrily confronts him about it. After being pressured by Pam to find out more about Christopher's parents, Bobby consults his lawyer friend again and is referred to a lawyer specializing in adoption.

  

Episode 94 - Season 5, Episode 17: My Father, My Son

J.R. tries to convince Donna that the only way to save her marriage is to persuade Ray to give his ten voting shares to J.R., thereby severing his ties to the Ewings. Bobby has his first meeting with Eccles about adopting Christopher telling him the child's mother is dead and the father unknown. Donna leaves Southfork to work on her new book and Lucy gets angry when she sees Mitch with another woman.

  

Episode 95 - Season 5, Episode 18: Anniversary

J.R., behind the scenes, gets a job offer for Cliff to get him out of Southfork so he can make a move to rekindle his relationship with Sue Ellen. Ray is caught with another woman by Donna and Lucy confronts Evelyn about Mitch. Bobby surprises Pam with her own business -- an aerobic dance salon -- pointing out she is now able to work and be with Christopher at the same time.

  

Episode 96 - Season 5, Episode 19: Adoption

J.R. has Ray arrested during one of his binges then shows up at jail and persuades a distraught Ray to sign over his ten voting shares in Ewing Oil. Cliff discovers J.R.'s plot to get him a phony job with Olco Industries. Roger's obsession with Lucy becomes increasingly warped and he becomes irate after she tells him she can't see him one night. Bobby wins temporary custody of Christopher at the adoption hearing.

  

Episode 97 - Season 5, Episode 20: The Maelstrom

J.R. returns to Southfork where the family is celebrating Christopher's adoption which serves to depress him further as he realizes he may be a long way from having his own son back. Ray cleans up his act and starts to put his life back together. Mitch shows up at one of Lucy's photo sessions and tells her he wants a divorce.

  

Episode 98 - Season 5, Episode 21: The Prodigal

Katherine looks for J.R.'s help because Cliff has taken over Wentworth Tool and Dye. Donna uncovers a secret in the pasts of the Ewings and Culvers while Clayton does some investigating to find out if Cliff is good for Sue Ellen. Farraday attempts to blackmail Bobby about Christopher and Lucy gets threatened by Roger.

  

Episode 99 - Season 5, Episode 22: Vengeance

J.R., through his manipulations, dupes Cliff into spending millions on a phony land deal. Farraday meets with Bobby and wants money and a ticket to Rio while Cliff proposes marriage to Sue Ellen. J.R.'s belief about the true parents of Christopher leads him to a blackmail plan to garner the control of Ewing Oil. Lucy is kidnapped by a crazed Roger when she is granted a new photographer.

  

Episode 100 - Season 5, Episode 23: Blackmail

Bobby Ewing's worst fears are realized when Farraday is murdered but a much worse blackmailer takes his place, his brother, J.R. With copies of Christopher's adoption records in his possession, J.R. realizes that he is probably the real father and now he can force Bobby to do his will so that Pam will never find out. J.R. also believes he will soon have a clear field to get Sue Ellen back with Clayton Farlow leaving town and Cliff Barnes well on the road to ruin. Donna faces Miss Ellie with her findings on Jock's early career and a deep rift is created between the two women.

  

Episode 101 - Season 5, Episode 24: The Investigation

Bobby is in a difficult position when he is questioned by the police about the extent of his involvement with Farraday. Lucy is released from her bondage after she is found by Pam and Bobby. Cliff realizes he is facing ruin and tries to borrow money from Sue Ellen, which J.R. uses to try and win Sue Ellen back even as he draws the net around Barnes even tighter. Donna is distressed at Ellie's continued coolness and Bobby is contacted by underworld figures.

  

Episode 102 - Season 5, Episode 25: Acceptance

Miss Ellie makes a decision on the book Donna is working on and comes to accept that Jock has died. The police recruit Bobby's help in setting up a plan to catch Farraday's killers and Cliff is fired by his mother for embezzlement. J.R. continues his efforts to win back Sue Ellen.

  

Episode 103 - Season 5, Episode 26: GoodbyeCliff Barnes

Cliff is devastated by Sue Ellen's return to J.R. and when Afton visits him she makes a shocking discovery. Bobby comes clean and reveals Christopher's true parentage to Pam. Clayton makes a return to Southfork and Lucy admits to a terrible secret.

  

Episode 104 - Season 6, Episode 1: Changing of the Guard

J.R. is the focus of everyone's wrath at Southfork. J.R. is blamed by the other Ewings, as well as Afton and Rebecca, for driving Cliff to suicide. Bobby has his own reasons for being furious with J.R. after being blackmailed by him over Christopher. Lucy has other worries as she waits for the results of a pregnancy test and Miss Ellie wants J.R. out as president of Ewing Oil.

  

Episode 105 - Season 6, Episode 2: Where There's a Will

J.R. schemes to get an advance look at Jock's will after discovering his father's wishes have sealed it until it can be revealed to the entire family. Still feeling guilty about Cliff Barnes, Sue Ellen wants time to think about re-marrying J.R., so she visits Clayton at the Southern Cross. Afton is disturbed when Cliff rejects her attempts to look after him and Marilee Stone offers him a position with her company. Ray and Donna get disturbing news from Kansas about Amos Krebbs while Bobby digs in at Ewing Oil and Miss Ellie reconsiders attending the Oil Barons Ball.

  

Episode 106 - Season 6, Episode 3: Billion Dollar Question

J.R. tries to push his mother and Bobby into a decision that would open Jock's will. Bobby and J.R. agree that it is time their mother gets out and meet old friends. Donna and Ray's long delayed honeymoon is postponed when they have to go to Kansas for Amos Krebb's funeral. Pam's concern for Lucy's depression prompts her to tell Bobby about his niece's condition and J.R. uses John Ross as a pawn to win Sue Ellen back.

  

Episode 107 - Season 6, Episode 4: The Big Ball

The Oil Baron's Ball opens up a new era for Miss Ellie. Sue Ellen is shocked when Dusty shows up at the Southern Cross while she is there visiting Clayton. Lucy decides she must get on with her life and put the past behind her. Ray tries to take a hand with his rebellious young cousin while he and Donna are in Kansas. J.R. and Bobby realize that the Ewings will be alienated from the oil cartel if Cliff Barnes works with Marilee Stone.

  

Episode 108 - Season 6, Episode 5: Jock's Will

The Ewing clan gathers at Southfork to hear the contents of Jock's will. Miss Ellie realizes that there is little hope of Jock ever returning so she takes her own advice about "moving on". Ray and Donna are called back from Kansas and Gary Ewing flies in from Knots Landing to a warm reception from his mother and Bobby but both Lucy and J.R. greet him unpleasantly. In spite of Jock's best intentions, the will again splinters the Ewing family.

  

Episode 109 - Season 6, Episode 6: Aftermath

With Jock's will pitting them against each other, J.R. and Bobby prepare to do battle to prove who is the best man and entitled to Ewing Oil. Miss Ellie is in the middle as her two sons square off and Ray is happy that he is now on par financially with Donna. Afton tries desperately to lift Cliff out of his despondency and to accept an offer from his mother even though it could put him on a collision course with J.R.

  

Episode 110 - Season 6, Episode 7: Hit and Run

J.R. and Bobby take different routes in their efforts to outdo each other for Ewing Oil. J.R. again is up to his old tricks to gain the advantage over his brother in their rivalry. Bobby gambles on a risky business proposition and Rebecca makes Cliff president of Barnes/Wentworth Oil. Pam pleads with her mother to call off her vendetta against J.R. which has all of the Ewing women worried.

  

Episode 111 - Season 6, Episode 8: The Ewing Touch

J.R.'s and Bobby's true colors emerge as they jockey for position in their race for Ewing Oil. Members of the Ewing family experience varied emotions when Ellie invites a gentleman friend to dinner. Lucy has trouble relating to an attentive client and Ray decides he has to take a stronger hand with Mickey. Cliff blames Pam for his losing out on a good business proposition and J.R.'s shady deeds accelerate as he races to beat out Bobby for Ewing Oil.

  

Episode 112 - Season 6, Episode 9: Fringe Benefits

J.R. Ewing and Cliff Barnes vie for the same oil refinery, with either Sue Ellen or Afton holding the trump card to win the deal for her man. Sue Ellen unhappily suspects that J.R. has used her in dealing with the lecherous Thruman while Afton realizes what she must do to help Cliff win over J.R. in the most important opportunity of his career. Miss Ellie questions J.R. about his tactics in pumping oil at full capacity and rejects the idea that there is anything serious between her and Frank Crutcher.

  

Episode 113 - Season 6, Episode 10: The Wedding

The Ewing feuds are temporarily put aside as guests gather at Southfork for a wedding. Lucy is the only family member who refuses to attend J.R.'s wedding, the drama of which is heightened as Cliff Barnes and Afton attend. With Ellie's blessing, Donna agees to a position on the Energy Commission to help its chances in committee. Ellie expresses her frustration at the split Jock's will has created in the family.

  

Episode 114 - Season 6, Episode 11: Post Nuptial

The heated emotions at the wedding of J.R. and Sue Ellen are quenched in the Southfork swimming pool. Cliff Barnes makes his presence at the wedding unpleasant and the celebration ends in a melee of flying fists and tangled emotions. While the new J.R. Ewings are on their honeymoon, Bobby discovers that J.R. is possibly engaged in activities which could bring down the mighty Ewing empire and disgrace the family name.

  

Episode 115 - Season 6, Episode 12: Barbecue Three

The annual Ewing barbecue ends in turbulence. J.R. pulls the dirtiest trick yet in his fight with Bobby for Ewing Oil, which angers the cartel and frustrates the new oil commission. When the barbecue is used as a battlefield for the opposing factions, the fracas unites the Ewings against the other oilmen. Afterwards, Miss Ellie realizes that she must take a hand in the feud that is splintering her family.

  

Episode 116 - Season 6, Episode 13: Mama Dearest

Miss Ellie explores the possibility of breaking Jock's will to save her family in spite of opposition from J.R. and Bobby. Pam supports Miss Ellie's position, which upsets Bobby, while Sue Ellen goes along with her husband's wishes. Bobby is frustrated in his desire to get more oil and more profits, while J.R. becomes a media hero as a result of his plentiful oil and cheap gasoline. Holly realizes she has put herself in a difficult position with J.R.'s interest in her company and Donna comes up against heavy opposition in the Energy Commission.

  

Episode 117 - Season 6, Episode 14: The Ewing Blues

Miss Ellie faces a hard decision when she must decide to tarnish Jock's memory or see her family disintegrate because of his will. Pam supports her mother-in-law's determined stand, which creates a breach between her and Bobby, and she finds a strong ally in Mark Graison. J.R. and Sue Ellen further alienate themselves when they go on television defending his position in the industry and in Ewing Oil. Donna is discouraged when the energy commission gives in to J.R. and Ray gives her much needed support, which leads to blows with J.R.

  

Episode 118 - Season 6, Episode 15: The Reckoning

The hearing to overturn Jock's will causes great emotional pain for Miss Ellie as well as further setting in motion other undercurrents in the Ewing Family. If Jock's latest will is ruled invalid an earlier one will leave Ewing Oil to Ellie with Ray and Gary without their trusts. J.R. attacks Pam for butting in and gets Sue Ellen to try and get Pam to support Bobby's position against his mother.

  

Episode 119 - Season 6, Episode 16: A Ewing Is a Ewing

The race for profits between J.R. and Bobby Ewing continues in the aftermath of the court's ruling on Jock's will. Miss Ellie escapes from the tension at Southfork with a trip to Galveston where she runs into an irate Clayton, still smoldering from J.R.'s use of Sue Ellen to get his excess crude refined at his refinery. Bobby discovers energy commission member George Hicks has ties with J.R. and Holly Harwood gets to know the real J.R. as the both use threats to establish a new working relationship with each other.

  

Episode 120 - Season 6, Episode 17: Crash of '83

Bobby is forced to emulate his brother, J.R., in dirty dealing which turns his stomach and disgusts Pamela. J.R. modestly denies he has political aspirations as he desperately searches for a refinery to continue the cheap gasoline production which is making him a popular hero. Rebecca vows to use all of the Wentworth influence to prevent him from acquiring a refinery and Cliff discovers that Afton had an affair with Thurman.

  

Episode 121 - Season 6, Episode 18: Requiem

Cliff Barnes blames himself after the crash of the Wentworth company plane in which his mother had taken his place as a passenger. Rebecca's accident is the latest episode caused indirectly by the ongoing war between her son and J.R. Ewing. J.R. is stunned when the energy commission rescinds his variance to pump oil and he quickly makes contact with Driscoll to establish a Caribbean oil deal.

  

Episode 122 - Season 6, Episode 19: Legacy

Pam leaves Bobby and Southfork to the delight of J.R. and Katherine Wentworth. J.R. sees his brother's split with his wife as an advantage to himself in their business rivalry and Katherine has her own reasons for interfering in her half-sister's life. Lucy rescues Mickey from a bar room brawl and they start to form a friendship while Donna and Ray are surprised at the cartel's attitude towards Bobby. Clayton advises Ellie to forget her family troubles and get on with her life.

  

Episode 123 - Season 6, Episode 20: Brothers and Sisters

Bobby and Pam find their strained relationship stretched even further as each is the target of another's plotting. With Katherine interested in Bobby and Mark pursuing Pam the separated pair find it difficult to reach each other. Miss Ellie finds helping Clayton find a new home in Dallas after the sale of the Southern Cross satisfying, much to the discomfort of J.R.

  

Episode 124 - Season 6, Episode 21: Caribbean Connection

Bobby discovers evidence proving that J.R. is illegally shipping oil to an embargoed country. As Bobby plots to put a knot in J.R.'s Caribbean connection, J.R. again considers running for public office with Sue Ellen concerned that her past might damage her husband's chances for election. Holly again goes to Bobby for advice but J.R. coerces her into doing his bidding in spite of Bobby's counsel. Mickey gets Lucy involved with his misunderstandings with Donna and Ray while Ray rushes to help Bobby pin down J.R.'s involvement in the illegal oil shipments.

  

Episode 125 - Season 6, Episode 22: The Sting

Bobby springs his trap on J.R. equalizing the two brothers in the race for Ewing Oil unless J.R. can neutralize the harm done by Bobby to his Caribbean deal. Katherine offers to supply information to J.R. to help in their common rivalry with Cliff Barnes as well as Bobby. The cartel is happy to see Cliff back on his feet which is due largely to Pam and Mark Graison. Driscoll vows revenge on J.R., as does Holly Harwood, and J.R. faces the fact that they are but two on a long list.

  

Episode 126 - Season 6, Episode 23: Hell Hath No Fury

J.R. and Bobby are both victims when Holly and Katherine plot to spoil their marriages for different reasons. Bobby has an opportunity to get out of the Canadian deal which is being held up and Cliff waits to grab it if he does. Bobby tells Pam that he will not quit the fight for Ewing Oil and Ray offers him monetary support.

  

Episode 127 - Season 6, Episode 24: Cuba Libre

J.R. finds the Ewing name doesn't mean much in Cuba when he arrives there to negotiate his and Holly's oil shipments. While J.R. is away, Sue Ellen confronts Holly to disprove his infidelity and Mickey's mother visits Southfork at Donna and Ray's invitation. Bobby and Cliff accidentally meet and have a confrontation about the Canadian deal as well as Bobby's troubled marriage. Miss Ellie and Clayton are the subjects of much speculation.

  

Episode 128 - Season 6, Episode 25: Tangled Web

J.R.'s Cuban deal sets up a string of events involving Bobby, Pam, Sue Ellen, and Holly. Bobby's illusions about the even race he is having with J.R. for Ewing Oil is shattered by a box of Cuban cigars. He also finds out that Pam is in France with Mark, where they are discovered by friends from Dallas. Afton defends Cliff and orders Katherine out of their house. Ray confesses to Aunt Lil that Jock was his father.

  

Episode 129 - Season 6, Episode 26: Things Ain't Goin' Too Good At Southfork

Sue Ellen returns to her old habits after she discovers J.R. in Holly's bedroom. She staggers to Clayton for help and Miss Ellie can't understand when she finds them together. Pam returns to confront Bobby and faces the decision to either help her husband in his fight for Ewing Oil and possibly lose him forever or not to help him and perhaps lose him to Katherine. Lucy and Mickey try to help Sue Ellen with tragic results.

  

Episode 130 - Season 6, Episode 27: Penultimate

Lucy bitterly blames Sue Ellen for the accident which has injured Mickey. The Ewing clan gathers at the hospital where Sue Ellen and Mickey have been taken after the car crash on the Southfork road. Lucy blames Sue Ellen for her drunken driving while Ray blames himself for bringing Mickey to Texas from his Kansas home. Clayton confronts J.R. for the actions which drove Sue Ellen back to seeking refuge in a bottle, while Bobby blames Holly for the intrigue she set up which has shattered Sue Ellen's faith in J.R.

  

Episode 131 - Season 6, Episode 28: Ewing Inferno

Ray feels that J.R. was responsible for Sue Ellen and Mickey's accident and his rage leads to a sequence of events with possibly tragic consequences for everyone in Southfork. Ray feels that he has failed by not protecting Mickey and offers a large reward for information about the hit and run driver who caused the accident but is not prepared when he finds the truth. Clayton urges Miss Ellie to take a vacation from her troubled family and Pam tells Bobby that she is going to help him win Ewing Oil but is going to divorce him. J.R. finally realizes what the fight for the company is costing the Ewings and the price may be more than even he can afford.

  

Episode 132 - Season 7, Episode 1: The Road Back

The Ewings face the reality of the Southfork fire. Bobby tries to keep Ray and J.R. calm but J.R. claims both Ray and Bobby are just as responsible for Mickey's condition as he is. Clayton tries to keep Miss Ellie in the dark about the fire at Southfork.

  

Episode 133 - Season 7, Episode 2: The Long Goodbye

Southfork, and the Ewing relationships, undergo rebuilding after the fire and other recent events. Away from the ranch, Mickey regains consciousness. Bobby asks Pam to come back and they agree to have dinner together, which upsets Katherine and Cliff. Clayton tells Bobby he must remain at Southfork until Ellie is well enough to return home. Mark will not wait much longer for Pam.

  

Episode 134 - Season 7, Episode 3: The Letter

J.R. and Katherine plot against Pam and Bobby. Sue Ellen is convinced that her and J.R.'s son, John Ross, needs help and she takes him to a psychologist who recommends a day camp where Peter Richards is a counselor. Cliff pushes Pam to form a partnership with him and Mark. Donna is concerned by Ray's obsessive guilt regarding Mickey.

  

Episode 135 - Season 7, Episode 4: My Brother's Keeper

Bobby and Pam end their marriage as J.R. and Katherine cheer from the sidelines. Sue Ellen finds she has an admirer at her son's day camp. J.R.'s plotting against his brother includes cutting him out of Ewing Oil. Pam finally realizes that Cliff is sincerely concerned about her, while turning a deaf ear to Afton's suspicions about Katherine's motives.

  

Episode 136 - Season 7, Episode 5: The Quality of Mercy

Unless their truce holds, Bobby learns that only a miracle could put him ahead of J.R. in their fight for Ewing Oil with the showdown only a few days away. Cliff recruits a spy in J.R.'s office and Pam moves into her mother's house which indicates that she will work with Cliff and Mark. Lucy admits that she has doubts about spending her life with a crippled Mickey and Sue Ellen tells her it is the tradition of the Ewing women to have bad luck with their men.

  

Episode 137 - Season 7, Episode 6: Check and Mate

The J.R. and Bobby Ewing contest for Ewing Oil officially concludes with startling and unexpected developments. J.R. and Bobby turn over their books for the final audit, which determines who will run the family company. When they gather to hear the results the course of the meeting bears significantly on the outcome. Sue Ellen invites Peter and John Ross' other camp counselors to Southfork for a party. With the help of Sly's spying, Cliff is able to outwit J.R. on an oil deal and Pam is afraid the Ewing-Barnes feud will start again.

  

Episode 138 - Season 7, Episode 7: Ray's Trial

With the fight for the family company finally resolved, the Ewings make futile attempts to repair the lacerations in their lives caused by the contest. Bobby is stunned to run into Jenna, his former girlfriend, working as a waitress and he stands Katherine up. J.R. has a confrontation with Holly and Sue Ellen notices that she is becoming uncomfortable around Peter. Ray is indicted by a grand jury for murder and Pam is upset to learn that Jenna is back in Bobby's life.

  

Episode 139 - Season 7, Episode 8: The Oil Baron's Ball

Emotions spill over at the Oil Baron's Ball as the Ewing and Barnes' parties confront each other. J.R. is delighted to see Bobby and Pam with other dates but shocked when Cliff is named Oil Man of the Year. Sue Ellen arranges for Peter to escort Lucy, who presents Jock Ewing Memorial scholarships and pays tribute to her grandfather. Katherine fuels a confrontation between Pam and Jenna during the evening and the truth behind Mickey's death is revealed when Lil takes the stand during the trial and Ray is found guilty.

  

Episode 140 - Season 7, Episode 9: Morning After

The Oil Baron's Ball ends with fists and food flying between J.R., Bobby, Cliff, Ray, and Mark. Cliff sets the Ewings on edge by defaming Jock's memory during his acceptance speech at the ball and with other sarcastic remarks to J.R. Afterwards, Pam treats Mark's battle scars at her home and Jenna binds Bobby's wounds at her condo. Lucy is curious about Sue Ellen's friendship with Peter, a relationship which takes a sardonic twist when Peter has to be coaxed into continuing his activities with John Ross because of his feelings for his mother.

  

Episode 141 - Season 7, Episode 10: The Buck Stops Here

The Charity Rodeo at Billy Bob's brings out the best of the Ewing clan's riding skills but uncovers the depth of their emotional crises. Pam realizes that she has alienated both Bobby and Mark but, after seeing Bobby with Jenna at the rodeo, makes up with mark in no uncertain terms. J.R. is outraged at the possibility that Sue Ellen is carrying on with Peter and at the office he sets a trap to find out who is double-crossing him by letting Cliff and Pam steal a lead on his prospective deals.

  

Episode 142 - Season 7, Episode 11: To Catch a Sly

J.R.'s determination to discover how Cliff is getting information about Ewing Oil's operations pays off when Sly falls into his trap. When J.R. confronts his secretary, she tells him how Cliff coerced her into working for him and he decides to use her to mislead Cliff. Meanwhile, Peter is upset when Lucy brings John Ross to camp instead of Sue Ellen. Katherine looks into Jenna's past to discredit her with Bobby.

  

Episode 143 - Season 7, Episode 12: Barbecue Four

Clayton Farlow and Miss Ellie have a surprise for the guests gathered at Southfork for the annual Ewing barbecue. Reactions vary after Clayton announces that he and Ellie are engaged, but J.R. is furious. Bobby tries to get Jenna to quit her job so that he can see more of her. J.R.'s plotting against Cliff Barnes gains momentum and Sly makes a deal with Cliff to support her and her brother.

  

Episode 144 - Season 7, Episode 13: Past Imperfect

J.R.'s resolve to prevent the marriage of his mother and Clayton Farlow becomes more determined when Miss Ellie receives an engagement ring during dinner at Southfork. J.R. denies to everyone that he will do anything to prevent the marriage but starts an investigation into Clayton's past. Bobby buys a boutique for Jenna which she rejects at first but finally agrees to accept only as a loan she must repay. Cliff takes the bait that J.R. dangles in front of him with Sly's help.

  

Episode 145 - Season 7, Episode 14: Peter's Principles

Sue Ellen has to fight her own emotions to try and convince Peter that he should not jeopardize his future because of her. She is concerned that Peter might try something desperate and goes to his apartment to see him. Miss Ellie cautions J.R. not to interfere with her plans to marry Clayton. Marilee Stone proposes a joint venture with Cliff, implying more than business, and, when Afton discovers them together, goes to Pam for support. Pam's concern prompts her to call Bobby and, much to Jenna's displeasure, they meet.

  

Episode 146 - Season 7, Episode 15: Offshore Crude

J.R.'s capacity for double-crossing comes close to running over as he sets up for a ride in risky offshore oil exploration. Cliff's need to perpetuate the Barnes-Ewing feud and his all consuming passion to out-do J.R. makes him reckless when Sly feeds him false information. Lucy invites Peter to Southfork and Sue Ellen is coerced into making a return visit to his apartment. Afton softens her attitude towards Cliff even as Marilee pushes him for an intimate relationship in return for a partnership in the offshore oil fields.

  

Episode 147 - Season 7, Episode 16: Some Do... Some Don't

Sue Ellen looks for a way out of her relationship with Peter. Peter talks Sue Ellen out of breaking off their affair but when she is mistaken for his mother her resolve becomes firmer. J.R. wants to have another child which Sue Ellen refuses to do. Ellie and Clayton talk about their upcoming marriage then have a serious misunderstanding. Miss Ellie changes her mind about marrying Clayton and J.R. is delighted. Bobby and Jenna's rekindled romance has a devastating effect on Pam when she discovers that her ex-husband has been spending nights away from Southfork. Episode 149 - Season 7, Episode 18: Twelve Mile Limit

J.R. hides his chargrin at his mother and Clatyon's reconciliation by continuing to work on Cliff's greed for his own advantage. J.R. arranges to sell his geologist reports on offshore tracts to Cliff who reluctantly agrees to buy them after Marilee makes it a condition for joining him in the venture. Donna and Ray find Randolph unconscious from liquor and pills and accuse J.R. of driving him to suicide.

J.R. rushes to Sue Ellen's bedside after she is hit by a car and receives a shocking piece of news. Marilee agrees to a partnership with Cliff as long as the other cartel members don't know about it. Bobby wants Clayton to beomce a greater part of the family by going into offshore drilling with him and J.R., who continues to harass Katherine.

Sue Ellen leaves the hospital unsure of who got her pregnant. J.R. and Peter are each convinced that he fathered the child Sue Ellen lost in the accident. Bobby, who is having his own dobuts about Charlie's parentage, realizes the subject is hanging between him and Jenna. J.R. makes Marilee have second thoughts about becoming Cliff's partner and Clayton bows out of the offshore venture with the Ewings.

Bobby confronts Jenna about Charlie's parentage and has difficulty accepting the fact that Jenna has led him on. Cliff bids high and J.R. bids low but each think he is the winner in the offshore drilling controversy. Randolph confesses to Ray and Donna that he gave J.R. information and all are at a loss to explain why he did not use the knowledge to win the leases. Ellie wants a small wedding, but Clayton is upset that his sister Jessica has been invited and Katherine realizes she may have outsmarted herself by getting Jenna out of Bobby's life.

  

Episode 154 - Season 7, Episode 23: Fools Rush In

J.R. gleefully operates behind the scenes to enmesh Cliff in an untenable financial situation he can use to his own advantage. Cliff learns he must raise $260 million to complete his offshore drilling obligations and, despite Afton's objections, goes to Vaughn Leland for the huge loan, unaware that J.R. and Leland are conspiring against him. Charlie goes to Bobby upset over his split with his mother and J.R. hires Peter to be John Ross' private counselor at the same time he is having his background investigated.

  

Episode 155 - Season 7, Episode 24: The Unexpected

Clayton's sister, Jessica, arrives at Southfork for her brother and Ellie's wedding loaded with gifts but lacking the customary good thoughts. J.R. is especially impressed by Jessica and her present to him -- her late husband's regimental sword. Pam makes the decision to marry Mark out of pity and a triumphant Katherine demands that J.R. give her the tapes he has been using to blackmail her. Bobby is unable to wish Pam luck and admits to Jenna how he is torn between his feelings for Pam and his need to hold onto her and Charlie.

  

Episode 156 - Season 7, Episode 25: Strange Alliance

J.R. and Jessica find an ally in each other as strange alliances are formed. Both J.R. and Jessica share the same sentiments about Ellie and Clayton's wedding plans. Lucy's determination to find out why Peter is not interested in her makes Sue Ellen apprehensive and Pam is frightened that her marriage to Mark will make her lose Bobby forever even as she tries to shield Mark from finding out the truth about his health. Pam tries to rush Mark into a quick marriage but he wants a big wedding and Miss Ellie insists on her own small nuptial event with Clayton at Southfork. Cliff's wells keep coming in dry and, needing collateral to borrow more money, he tries to turn to Mark for help but Pam won't let him. Episode 158 - Season 7, Episode 27: Turning Point

J.R. badgers Jessica to uncover the secret in Clayton's past that he could use to stop his mother's wedding. Cliff has to sell assets to get cash for his drilling without knowing that J.R. is the buyer and is pulling the strings to frustrate Cliff's attempts at hitting oil. Peter is arrested when cocaine is found in his car by the police.

At the diner where she works, Lucy is rescued from some roughnecks by her co-worker's boyfriend. Miss Ellie takes drastic steps to make Clayton feel secure at Southfork over J.R.'s objections and Bobby's discomfort. Ellie feels that Clayton may be deliberately staying away from home and Donna suggest she remove Jock's portrait from the house. Pam faces the realization that she has lsot Bobby and renews her efforts to locate Mark's plane. Lucy brawls with Betty while on a date with Eddie and Jenna's ex-husband resurfaces in Dallas.

  

Episode 171 - Season 8, Episode 10: Charlie

Bobby and Jenna are frantic when Charlie disappears, Clayton still feels like an outsider at Southfork and Pam interprets new evidence as proof that Mark is alive. Charlie learns that Marchetta is her father and vanishes, while the police search for her. J.R. tries to date Mandy and Cliff encourages her to accept.

  

Episode 172 - Season 8, Episode 11: Barbecue Five

J.R. is delighted that no Barnes are in attendance at the Ewings' annual barbecue at Southfork but he receives a shock from Jamie which spoils his fun. At the barbecue, Jamie produces a document that J.R. immediately declares a fake but which Clayton predicts will cause the Ewings many headaches. Pam continues her search for Mark with renewed hope after a psychic predicts a man will re-enter her life.

  

Episode 173 - Season 8, Episode 12: Do You Take This Woman...

Bobby and Jenna's wedding day arrives but a mysterious phone call leaves the assembled guests without a bride and groom. Jamie declares she doesn't intend to use the document she possesses against the family, only to prove she is a Ewing. It's existence sends J.R. scurrying to try to prove iti s a forgery and Cliff looking for proof of its validity. Marchetta comes to terms with Jenna over Charlie but Jenna learns once again that she cannot trust him.

  

Episode 174 - Season 8, Episode 13: Deja Vu

Bobby thinks Jenna intentionally ran out on him and with that the wedding is cancelled. Bobby is stunned to find Jenna with Marchetta. Pam's happiness at the turn of events is tempered by her search for Mark and new evidence sends her to the Caribbean. Cliff and Mandy search for Digger's records to try to substantiate Jamie's document about Ewing Oil.

  

Episode 175 - Season 8, Episode 14: Odd Man Out

Bobby is devastated with the news that Jenna married Marchetta and tries to forget her by drinking. Jenna tries to reach Bobby by phone but is prevented from doing so by her husband who forces her to go with him to Laredo, where she gets a shock. Pam is told that Mark was seen at a hospital in the Caribbean and referred to a facility in Jamaica. Jamie is impressed by J.R.'s concern for the family and reassures him, Bobby, and Sue Ellen that she won't us her document against them.

  

Episode 176 - Season 8, Episode 15: Lockup in Laredo

Jenna is arrested for murder, J.R.'s world seems to falling apart and Pam's search is proving fruitless. Jenna pleads not guilty to murdering Marchetta but is denied bail in Laredo and Bobby tries to trace Charlie. J.R. provokes Jamie, who threatens to use her document after he accuses her of lying about his infidelity, which Sue Ellen witnesses.

  

Episode 177 - Season 8, Episode 16: Winds of War

Jamie leaves Southfork and her hatred of J.R. teams her up with Cliff and alienates her from Sue Ellen. Clayton predicts that Jamie will now use her document to try to divide Ewing Oil and Donna and Ray find evidence to prove that the document may be valid. Cliff realizes that J.R. is feeding him false information through Mandy and intends to reverse the pipeline even though Mandy resents being used. Bobby learns that Jenna's fingerprints were on the gun that killed Marchetta but he is able to rescue Charlie.

  

Episode 178 - Season 8, Episode 17: Bail Out

Jenna is reunited with Charlie after she is released on bail and tells Bobby she won't marry him when the trial hangs over her head. Pam learns that J.R. has been misleading her with false rumors about Mark, which makes her suspicious of the reports that he was recently seen in Hong Kong. She also refuses to join Cliff and Jamie in their fight for a share of Ewing Oil because she doesn't want to hurt Bobby, whom she surprises by letting him know that she hopes for a reconciliation.

  

Episode 179 - Season 8, Episode 18: Legacy of Hate

J.R. realizes what a precarious position he has put his family in after he, Bobby, and Ellie are legally notified that Cliff and Jamie are suing for their share of Ewing Oil. Pam joins Cliff and Jamie in their suit in retaliation for J.R. having misled her about Mark.

Futher documentation is discovered verifying the document dividing Ewing Oil between the Barneses and the two factions of the Ewings. A workman from the original Ewing well reveals that Jock was concerned about Digger and protected him from a vicious Jason. J.R. remarks to a stunned Cliff that a trial would expose his father as a helpless drunk and Pam is advised to follow up the lead that Mark may be in Hong Kong.

  

Episode 181 - Season 8, Episode 20: The Brothers Ewing

The pending fight for Ewing Oil brings J.R., Bobby, and Ray closer together but J.R.'s schemes alienate Miss Ellie and Clayton. J.R. tells his brothers to prepare for a no holds barred battle with Cliff, while Donna worries about her husband's alliance with the devious J.R. Cliff is predicting a certain court victory but Pam and Jamie are afraid their father's reputations with be forever tarnished druing the proceedings. Episode 182 - Season 8, Episode 21: Shattered Dreams

Jenna's trial gets moved to Dallas but she and Bobby are devastated when her defense suffers a serious setback. Jenna's case takes a serious turn after a witness who professed knowing the name of the real killer ends up dead. Ellie stands by Clayton in his opposition to the Ewing brothers' illegal schemes to protect the company and admits her husband and Southfork are what are important to her. Even though Pam admits her love of Bobby, she and Sue Ellen go to Hong Kong in search of Mark.

  

Episode 183 - Season 8, Episode 22: Dead Ends

Pam finally gets to see the patient she and Sue Ellen have traveled so far to find and J.R. and Cliff create an unpleasant incident. Pam faces up to what the results of her Hong Kong trip will mean to her life and J.R. continues to pursue Mandy and welcomes Sly back. Against Bobby's objections, the police treat Veronica's death as a drug overdose and Jenna's request for a postponement is denied.

  

Episode 184 - Season 8, Episode 23: Trial and Error

Jenna is frightened as her trial begins with a scathing opening statement by the prosecution and Bobby is called to testify against her. Bobby and Jenna are even more distressed after they learn that Veronica's sister is afraid to testify. Meanwhile, Pam and Sue Ellen start back to Dallas from Hong Kong and J.R. denies responsibility for their trip but admits he wants to keep Pam away from Bobby.

The jury decides Jenna's fate. The energy commission shuts down one of J.R.'s fields because of contamination and J.R. arranges a surprise for its chairman after promising to finance his campaign. J.R.'s attitude toward her has Sue Ellen puzzled and J.R. tells Mandy he may not be with his wife much longer.

  

Episode 186 - Season 8, Episode 25: Sentences

Charlie's welfare is uppermost in Jenna's mind as she is found guilty of murder and awaits sentencing. Bobby reassures Charlie that she can rely on him and makes a risky statement in the courtroom to ensure Jenna's peace of mind which upsets Pam, who thinks he has been lying to her. Pam reaffirms her support of Cliff and Jamie against the Ewings and admits that she must face the fact that Mark is dead. J.R. uses the tapes of Billings' indescretion to get him to close down Cliff's offshore Gold Canyon operation and Sue Ellen threatens J.R. with divorce.

  

Episode 187 - Season 8, Episode 26: Terms of Estrangement

J.R. and Bobby prepare to meet Cliff and Jamie in court. Pam stays in the fight against her ex-husband and his brother. New developments make Bobby hopeful that Jenna may have another chance but her bitterness makes her tell Bobby not to see her again. J.R., Bobby, and Ray are intrigued by the stranger who claims he can help them save Ewing Oil but Cliff is worried when he finds out that the man is Jamie's brother. After the stranger reveals his identity to the Ewing brothers they are surprised he's Jamie's brother but relieved to find he's a Ewing. Meanwhile, Donna believes she and Ray are headed for divorce and Lucy and her ex-husband meet. Sue Ellen allows an ailing John Ross to stay home from school while she attends her therapy group.

  

Episode 189 - Season 8, Episode 28: Deeds and Misdeeds

Cliff and Jamie are married, unaware that the Ewing brothers have new evidence in the fight for Ewing Oil. Jack Ewing's help for control of the family company at first seems of no value when it is learned that the documents he was to produce were destroyed in a fire. Then it is discovered that Amanda, Jock's first wife, has copies that will give the brothers the upper hand in their battle to retain control of Ewing Oil. The news that the hit man is in custody raises hopes that Jenna soon will be released and intensifies Bobby's conflicting emotions over her and Pam.

  

Episode 190 - Season 8, Episode 29: Deliverance

The fight for Ewing Oil goes to the courts with the Ewing brothers confident that Amanda's evidence will prove more powerful than the documents Cliff and Jamie possess. J.R. has deliberately goaded Cliff into proceeding with the lawsuit so the Barnes' can be publicly discredited. Bobby devises a plan to draw a confession from Marchetta's suspected killer and secure Jenna's release, which leaves him with mixed emotions after he and Pam declare their love. A newspaper item about one of the Ewings infuriates a reader who makes an ominous vow.

An unforseen and shocking occurrence leaves members of the Ewing family facing the greatest crisis of their lives. Episode 192 - Season 9, Episode 1: The Family Ewing

The search for Sue Ellen ends up in the police station drunk tank. Sue Ellen is moved to a detoxification ward where J.R. and Dusty have a confrontation which sends Sue Ellen into a frenzy. Miss Ellie and Clayton get J.R. to commit her to a sanitarium. Meanwhile, J.R. tries to keep Pam out of Ewing Oil while Cliff sees his own hopes of controlling Christopher's inheritance as a means of getting ahead of his nemesis.

  

Episode 195 - Season 9, Episode 4: Resurrection

Miss Ellie accepts the idea of selling Ewing Oil as a means of keeping her troubled family together, but the prospect further divides the Ewing heirs. J.R. wants to buy Christopher's share of the company and Jack wonders if J.R. will want his ten percent. Meanwhile, Sue Ellen gets a visit from Dusty in the sanitarium and begs him to take her with him.

  

Episode 196 - Season 9, Episode 5: Saving Grace

Pam and Miss Ellie wish to sell out to Wendell, with Jack and Ray willing to follow their lead, which causes J.R. to contemplate taking John Ross and leaving Dallas.

  

Episode 198 - Season 9, Episode 7: The Wind of Change

Bobby Ewing posthumously receives the Oil Man of the Year Award at the Oil Baron's Ball, which Miss Ellie passes on to Christopher. While accepting for her son, Pam makes an announcement that astonishes J.R. and significantly affects the future of Ewing Oil. Before the ball, J.R.'s distress makes his mother change her mind about selling to Wendell but J.R. considers Wendell's pending acquisition of Christopher's interest unacceptable and vows to start over.

  

Episode 199 - Season 9, Episode 8: Quandary

At Ewing Oil, Pam incurs J.R.'s wrath when she reminds him that they are partners and settles into Bobby's old office. J.R. is delighted that Pam didn't sell to Wendell, but Cliff attacks her for reversing her decision and Mark thinks that she essentially chose Bobby over him in deciding to retain Christopher's shares. Donna and Ray make a decision about their baby and Angelica Nero interests an unsuspecting Cliff in an oil drilling venture as a ploy to attract J.R.

  

Episode 200 - Season 9, Episode 9: Close Encounters

The Ewing hosted charity rodeo provides a fitting arena for the family's social and economic maneuvering. Jenna and Donna cheer Jack and Ray on in the bareback bronc riding event while Jenna, Sue Ellen, and Jamie compete in the barrel race and Pam and Christopher root for Mark in the steer roping event. Angelica decides on Ewing Oil for her venture and Pam makes it clear that she is as involved as J.R. in Ewing Oil decisions.

  

Episode 201 - Season 9, Episode 10: Suffer the Little Children

Sue Ellen seeks a legal separation from J.R. and full custody of John Ross, but J.R. vows that she will never be safe if she takes his son away from him. Miss Ellie dashes Patricia's hopes of saving the Sue Ellen - J.R. marriage and both agree that John Ross is the one good thing that came from it. J.R. wants to personally discuss the Ewing deal with Marinos and gets suspicious after Angelica is evasive and comments that Jack's involvement in the deal might be important.

J.R.'s investigation of Marinos pressures Angelica to try and quickly close the deal but his detective suggests J.R. hold off because of some odd activity at Marinos before disappearing. The detective calls from Athens for J.R. to meet him at the airport but his luggage shows up but the detective doesn't. Angelica discloses why Jack is critical to the deal and Pam is opposed to the co-venture but Angelica and Grace agree that she can be taken care of is she becomes a problem.

  

Episode 203 - Season 9, Episode 12: En Passant

J.R.'s efforts to coerce the judge in the custody fight with Sue Ellen over their son prove fruitless after Sue Ellen takes John Ross' future into her own hands. The son of the judge who will preside at the appeal hearing for John Ross' custody is grateful when J.R. offers to find a job for him at Ewing Oil and J.R. hopes the father will also be grateful.

  

Episode 204 - Season 9, Episode 13: Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen

The future of several lives hang in the balance as Sue Ellen ponders a move back to Southfork, which could also affect her custody of John Ross. When J.R. refuses to continue Ewing Oil's investment in Matt's mine, Pam decides to back it with her own money. Meanwhile, Angelica and Grace anxiously await the results of Jack's blood analysis and assure Nicholas that he will be at the Venezuelan conference of oil ministers in which Marinos Shipping will participate.

J.R. learns that blood matching indicates that Jack and Jamie had the same parents which gives him an entirely new perspective in his dealings with Angelica and the Marinos deal. Ellie finds out what is troubling Clayton and takes it on herself to save him and Pam decides to visit Matt's emerald mine. Angelica gets J.R. to have Jack attend an oil conference in Martinique and Sue Ellen uses her powers of persuasion on Dr. Kenderson.

J.R.'s scheming to involve Pam in Matt's mining operation sends Pam to South America and also entices Cliff to invest in the venture. Sue Ellen's ingenuity earns J.R.'s begrudging respect while she enjoys the company of Dr. Kenderson. Nicholas, Angelica, and Grace scheme to get Jack to Martinique without J.R.'s influence. With drilling on the Marinos project underway, Cliff is puzzled as to where J.R. got the equipment.

  

Episode 210 - Season 9, Episode 19: Shadow Games

Pam disappears and Matt is left for dead at the campsite in Colombia. Clayton realizes that it is time to sell Farlow Industries when he finds that Ellie has been secretly backing his losses. Nicholas has news that stuns Angelica and Grace and threatens to ruin their Martinique scheme, while J.R. gets the better of Cliff at the Graison Research charity auction at which Jenna avoids Jack who is Grace's escort.

  

Episode 211 - Season 9, Episode 20: Missing

J.R. travels to Colombia to make sure his connection with Matt is kept hidden and to pay Rueda to search for Pam while Cliff and Mark arrive and blame Matt for Pam's disappearance. Grace seduces Jack and Angelica tells Nicholas they'll proceed with the Martinique scheme as planned. In Colombia, a messenger delivers Pam's brooch to Matt with a cryptic note which leaves Cliff scared and very shaken.

  

Episode 212 - Season 9, Episode 21: Dire Straits

In Colombia Cliff and Mark, who blame themselves for Pam's misfortune, reluctantly agree to let Matt deliver the ransom note alone as instructed by the kidnappers and in Dallas Jenna's fixation causes growing concerns. Having made the money drop, Matt returns with a note saying Pam will be released the next day at the same spot. Meanwhile, at Southfork, an arrangement is made for a psychiatrist to see Jenna.

J.R. becomes increasingly jealous of Jerry Kenderson's attentions to Sue Ellen, Jenna continues to be undecided about psychiatric visits, and in Colombia, a thoroughly disenchanted Cliff ponders Pam's offer to buy back his interest in the emerald mine.

  

Episode 214 - Season 9, Episode 23: Sitting Ducks

The family welcomes Pam and Mark home from Colombia and J.R. is secretly delighted that Pam will continue to subsidize Matt's excavation of the mine. In Colombia, Matt vows to prove to a skeptical Rueda that he is not only interested in Pam's money and after Ray helps Donna with the handicapped kids, she wonders why he is overly interested in one of the deaf boys. In Martinique, Jack ignores Grace's admission that she loves him and Angelica and Nicholas plot the final phase of their scheme which threatens the lives of an unsuspecting J.R. and Jack.

In Martinique, Jack masquerades as Dimitri, while J.R. suspects that Angelica has been illegally taking Dimitri's affairs into her own hands. Back in Dallas, Kenderson takes Sue Ellen to dinner and indicates that he will not be satisfied with a platonic relationship and Jenna continues to worry the family after she cancels her therapy sessions.
