Episode 1 - Dead On Time

Morse investigates the apparent suicide of Henry Fallon who, suffering from a fatal disease, appears to have shot himself. But a simple suicide turns into a murder investigation with only one man seemly capable of committing the crime.

  

Episode 2 - The Death of the Self

Chief Superintendent Strange sends Morse and Lewis to Italy to investigate the murder of an Englishwoman. The Italian verdict is accidental death, but at inquest her husband questions the decision. Featuring Frances Barber (Prick Up Your Ears) and Michael Kitchen (The Railway Children, The Guilty).

  

Episode 3 - Absolute Conviction

Lawrence Cryer, one of three men convicted of a large financial swindle, is found murdered in Farnleigh Prison. Morse and Lewis go behind bars to investigate, but find they have to tread carefully with the prison Governor.

  

Episode 4 - Happy Families

Sir John Balcombe is found brutally murdered at his home, Balcombe House, but his family show no signs of grief and are more concerned with the future of the family business.

  

Episode 5 - Cherubim and Seraphim

One of Morse's most painful and personal cases. On a visit to his step-mother, Morse finds himself in the middle of a tragedy - his step-niece has committed suicide. Morse takes compassionate leave, but begins searching into his step-niece's past to find the reason for her death.
