Episode 1 - Series 1, Episode 1: Rhubarb and Custard

When Josh’s girlfriend, Claire, dumps him and tells him she’s pretty sure he’s gay, he’s mostly worried that the sundae for two that’s just arrived at their table is suddenly pretty humiliating. Josh seeks out his best mate Tom, who is busy at work googling giraffes and planning to dump his own overbearing girlfriend - and Josh’s nemesis - Niamh.

  

Episode 1 - Rhubarb and Custard

When Josh’s girlfriend, Claire, dumps him and tells him she’s pretty sure he’s gay, he’s mostly worried that the sundae for two that’s just arrived at their table is suddenly pretty humiliating. Episode 2 - Series 1, Episode 2: French Toast

Josh’s dad, Alan, is so convinced that he’s responsible for his ex-wife’s predicament that he insists on dropping his younger girlfriend Mae at the corner store before visiting Josh at the family home, in case he upsets Rose. Josh seems to be taking a different approach to his mum’s recovery, and after throwing things at her to get her out of bed, he leaves her at her psychiatrist’s appointment and heads off to visit Tom at his office. He runs into Geoffrey, who is keen to pick up where they left off and invites Josh out on a date.

Josh receives a drunken phone call from his dad, desperate for Josh to rescue him and his new sports car. Alan gets to meet Geoffrey, who has no qualms telling Alan the truth about his relationship with Josh.

Episode 7 - Series 2, Episode 1: Milk

Josh’s attempts at babysitting his new sister and charming his new housemate do not go well. As his house fills up with semi-clothed twentysomethings and drunk, suspicious parents, Mum arrives with a sobering surprise.

At a backyard party, Tom meets a cute girl, Josh meets an odd boy, and a beer pong game gets really weird. Meanwhile, as Mum is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, Josh meets her fellow patients and feels strangely at home.

Josh is in a tizz as he prepares for a surprise date with Geoffrey. Arnold checks into Mum’s hospital. Mum and Ginger grow closer. Dad and Mae panic over baby Grace’s poo, and Tom finds himself in a bizarre love triangle.

Niamh finds out about Jenny and all hell breaks loose for Tom. Hannah joins a choir, Mum gets some shattering news, and Josh has a disastrous date, before an accident brings a car trip with Patrick to an unexpected end.

  

Episode 11 - Series 2, Episode 5: Sausage Sizzle

A plumbing misadventure leaves Josh short of cash. Claire returns home. Mum and Ginger have a fight. Josh and Dad are forced to make a quick getaway, and Jenny’s school play provides a backdrop for romance and humiliation.

  

Episode 12 - Series 2, Episode 6: Lapin a la Cocotte

Patrick stomps on Josh’s heart. A funeral leads to a disturbing encounter for Tom. Josh takes the psychiatric patients on a trip to the zoo, but the spark of a new romance is doused by a shock discovery.

  

Episode 13 - Series 2, Episode 7: Scroggin

Mum and Josh head out on a five-day hike in the Tasmanian wilderness. Mum becomes the Donkey to Josh’s Shrek. She gets trapped in a waterhole by a snake. They get stoned, and they finally talk about Mum’s suicide attempts.

  

Episode 14 - Series 2, Episode 8: Truffled Mac and Cheese

Patrick moves out. Tom eats Josh’s truffled mac and cheese, so Josh barricades him in his room all day. Arnold reveals to Josh that he has feelings for him. Dad forces Josh to find a job. Claire and Tom have a heart-to-heart.

At Josh’s first day on the job, tempers rise over the cappuccino machine. Dad tells Josh he wants to propose to Mae. Arnold’s psychiatrist insists Josh and Arnold can only go on a ‘safe date’. Complications ensue.

Josh and Arnold go clubbing and run into an out-of-it Patrick. Drugs, alcohol, pizza and skinny dipping combine to make a messy night. Tom orders a prostitute, Arnold has an anxiety attack, and Dad finally proposes to Mae.

  

Episode 17 - Series 3, Episode 1: Eggplant

Josh is surprised to find he’s living in a romcom. Despite grand romantic gestures, elaborate dates and barely-edible vegetarian meals, he still can’t seem to get Arnold to commit to being his boyfriend. Even the lure of adorable new baby chickens doesn’t seem to be getting him across the line. As he seeks counsel from his bipolar Mum, well-meaning-but-distracted Dad, no-nonsense, de facto stepmother Mae, and romantically hopeless friends Tom, Claire and Hannah, Josh rides a romantic roller coaster that looks like it’s headed for a lonely destination... unless a last-minute stunt can turn things around.

  

Episode 18 - Series 3, Episode 2: Simple Carbohydrates

As a loaf of bread causes friction between Josh and Tom, Arnold reveals he’s going to come out to his parents at his birthday party. Mae has a big confession to make that leaves Dad heartbroken and behaving irrationally. Hannah’s depression reveals itself in a disturbing manner, but Mum insists on taking her out for a big night at a lesbian bar. Claire reveals that she’s coming home from Germany – again. Josh ropes Dad into helping Arnold do a musical dress rehearsal of coming out to his homophobic father.

  

Episode 19 - Series 3, Episode 3: Croquembouche

At Arnold’s birthday party, Josh, Tom and Hannah finally get to meet Arnold’s rich and unexpectedly charming parents. Dad wanders around Josh’s house like a lost soul as he tries to deal with Mae’s revelation. Mum is surprised to hear from her psychiatric hospital suitor, Stuart. Tom receives an unsettling offer from the boss he fooled around with, and some advice from Arnold’s father, as they become firm friends. When Arnold finally summons up the courage to make his big coming out announcement, things do not go quite as expected. With special guest stars Geoff Morrell and Gina Riley.

  

Episode 20 - Series 3, Episode 4: Natural Spring Water

Josh, Tom and Arnold decide that they’re young, they’re hot, and it’s time to experiment with MDMA. Arnold’s anxiety about what might happen disappears when the drugs come on and the trio decides to head to a nightclub. They meet a free-spirited girl called Ella, who convinces them to go for a run in the night that ends up with a kiss, an ambulance ride and Tom in a hospital emergency room. As they wait for Tom to be patched up, Josh and Arnold convince Ella to dump her boyfriend, while phone calls from Dad and Mae reveal that Dad has also been dumped.

  

Episode 21 - Series 3, Episode 5: Coq Au Vin

Josh, Arnold, Tom and Ella wake up to the foggy morning after their big night out. As dawn breaks, Claire arrives back from Berlin, and the crowing from the backyard makes everyone finally admit that Adele the chicken is actually a rooster. They discuss the options. All are bleak for Adele. Ella, who seems to have moved in with Tom, suggests they cook Adele as a welcome home dinner for Claire. Vegetarian Arnold is not keen and carnivore Tom is horrified. Josh tries to be brave. In the middle of all this, Arnold proposes the idea of an open relationship to Josh.

  

Episode 22 - Series 3, Episode 6: Pancakes With Faces

As Arnold gets ready for a trial sleepover back at his parents’ home, Tom gets anxious about his trip to the dentist, and Claire is dealing with a personal issue, Josh shows his support for everyone the best way he knows how – with food. Meanwhile, when Mum learns that Stuart is still with his wife, she enlists Hannah as a sidekick to plot revenge. With Dad determined to move on from Mae, he tries to enlist Josh as a sidekick to find a new house, but Josh is busy discovering with Claire that they are growing up - fast.

  

Episode 23 - Series 3, Episode 7: Puff Pastry Pizza

Tom challenges Josh and Claire to smash his piñata, full of secrets from their past. While Arnold is away at a maths summit, Josh decides to test out the idea of their “open relationship”, and before he’s had time to change his mind, he’s hosting a random hookup with a smart but decidedly odd guy called Ben. Claire gets stuck with Tom in his room while they stay out of Josh’s way and wait for Ben to leave. After an awkward start, the two revive their friendship by playing an epic game of Penis or Not Penis. Meanwhile Josh is unexpectedly challenged and intrigued by Ben.

  

Episode 24 - Series 3, Episode 8: Amoxicillin

Tom discovers he has chlamydia – again. He’s worried that if he tells Ella, he’ll lose her, so Josh agrees to help Tom try to pull off a caper so bold that they may just get away with it – giving Ella medication for chlamydia without her knowing. Meanwhile, Josh agrees to babysit Grace so Dad and Mae can have a nice “making up” dinner. Their night is interrupted by a call for help from Mum, who has a surprising Stuart situation on her hands. A phone call from Ben throws Josh off course.

  

Episode 25 - Series 3, Episode 9: Champagne

After visiting Ben in hospital before his brain surgery, Josh decides to tell Arnold about him. Tom thinks Josh and Claire are keeping secrets from him. Ella tries to distract everyone by taking them for an outing on a scenic observation wheel, but a confined space with no escape route brings up old issues, new tensions and a panic attack from Arnold, as Josh waits to learn of Ben’s fate. Meanwhile, as Mum and Hannah make a concerted effort to take control of their lives, they end up back where they started.

  

Episode 26 - Series 3, Episode 10: Trifle

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and Christmas orphans Arnold, Ella, Claire, Hannah and Tom all find themselves crammed around the table with Josh’s family for a Christmas lunch they’ll never forget. With Mum back in manic mode, Hannah dealing with her depression, Arnold missing his family, Claire facing up to her loneliness and Dad and Mae experimenting with a new parenting technique, Josh discovers that warm punch, spilt gravy and a vomiting dog are the least of his problems.

  

Episode 27 - Series 4, Episode 1: Babaganoush

A threesome goes wrong, teddy bears' lives are threatened, a lovers' tiff makes a family barbecue awkward, and a revelation over a chocolate quinoa slice makes Josh realise he's had it up to here with things.

  

Episode 28 - Series 4, Episode 2: Porridge

A camping trip to celebrate Hannah's birthday goes pear-shaped. Josh and his friends face stormy weather, dampened spirits, a treasure hunt, a dead body and fireworks - both in the sky and in their tent.

Josh is single and ready to mingle, but a string of dates goes from weird to worse as he tries to remain optimistic about his love life. Meanwhile, Hannah has taken up boxing, while Mum seems to have taken up fighting - with anyone about anything.

Josh takes his divorced Mum and Dad to a cutting edge degustation dinner. As they work their way through fifteen delicious and intimidating courses, wine is consumed, emotions run high and secrets are spilled.

Josh reconnects with his first boyfriend, Geoffrey, who shows Josh some surprising new tricks. As Dad gets excited about a low-carb diet, Ella has a health scare which leads to a checkup from an extremely hot doctor, which makes Tom jealous.

  

Episode 32 - Series 4, Episode 6: Souvlaki

It's the end of an era as Josh, Tom and Ella move out of their share house and find that domestic bliss is hard to come by. Josh confronts Claire about their friendship and weighs up whether a pasta maker or a therapist will best solve his problems.
