Season 1 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - A Friend In Need

"The Jeffersons", inspired by characters created on "All in the Family", have left 'Bunkerville' for midtown New York and their own series. The Jeffersons' new affluence is creating marital mayhem between Louise and George, especially when George insists Louise hire a maid to take care of their new Manhattan high-rise apartment. Not only does Louise reject the idea of having a maid, she's also upset by George's snobbish reasons for wanting one.

  

Episode 2 - George's Family Tree

A piece of primitive art given to the Jeffersons by the Willises sparks an inter-family battle about the importance of ancestors. George, totally unimpressed by anyone's ancestry, goes through a quick reversal in attitude when he gets some exciting information about his own background.

  

Episode 3 - Louise Feels Useless

Living the life of the idle rich is driving Louise up the wall, but her solution to the problem ends up creating an even greater problem.

  

Episode 4 - Lionel, the Playboy

Louise is extremely upset over Lionel's new "playboy" attitude. George, on the other hand, loves the idea of his son rubbing elbows with the rich. However, George quickly changes his point of view about Lionel's new lifestyle when he learns his son is thinking about quitting college.

  

Episode 5 - Mr. Piano Man

Dedicated to his new philosophy of "not making waves", George wants nothing to do with a tenant protest meeting. But, when he learns his banker and fellow-tenant H.L. Whittendale is expected to attend, George not only changes his tune, he also insists on hosting the meeting in a style he hopes will impress the penthouse-dwelling banker.

  

Episode 6 - George's Skeleton

George sees his life going down the drain when "Monk" Davis appears from out of his past, threatening to rattle a skeleton in his closet unless George coughs up same cash.

  

Episode 7 - Lionel Cries Uncle

Louise has a visit from her Uncle Ward, a man who happens to be a butler, which makes George and Lionel make fun of him, calling him an “Uncle Tom”.

  

Episode 8 - Mother Jefferson's Boyfriend

A man named Herbert Russell asks Mother Jefferson to marry him, but George is totally against the idea as he thinks Russell is after the family money.

  

Episode 9 - Meet the Press

George is convinced publicity will help his business, so he tricks a newspaper reporter into coming to his home for an interview, but things don’t go according to plan.

  

Episode 10 - Rich Man's Disease

George is diagnosed with an ulcer, the “rich man’s disease”, and Louise faces the impossible task of keeping George away from anything that aggravates him.

  

Episode 11 - Former Neighbors

George's past is about to ruin his future, at least that's what he fears. George's nightmare begins when he discovers that Louise has invited some old friends from Harlem to dinner at the same time that he has invited a high society businessman.

  

Episode 12 - Like Father, Like Son

Louise becomes concerned when she sees Lionel beginning to act more and more like his father and sparks soon start flying between him and Jenny, egged on by George.

  

Episode 13 - Jenny's Low

Jenny's globe-trotting brother surprises his family with a visit home after a two-year absence, but Jenny is anything but happy to see him.
