Episode 1 - Chicago Gangs

Chicago gangs are at the center of the fear, rage, and grief over the astonishing levels of homicide in the city, much of which is concentrated in black neighborhoods. Native son W. Kamau Bell explores the mythology and the facts of gang violence by attending a City Hall press conference and meeting with various people including a Black Lives Matter activist and Chicago native Dwayne Wade's mom.

  

Episode 2 - Native Americans

The people who were here before this country was called America have not been treated well since the colonizers arrived to claim their land. W. Kamau Bell brings his signature curiosity to North and South Dakota to celebrate the indigenous population and to learn more about the current state of affairs in their embattled world.

  

Episode 3 - Appalachia

From the pronunciation of the breathtaking territory itself, to retired black coal miners, to the astonishingly lucrative crops of ginseng, Appalachia is a region full of fascinating distinctions for W. Kamau Bell to discover. Home to the poorest predominantly white town in America, Appalachia is nevertheless rich with history and local wonders.

  

Episode 4 - Muslims

W. Kamau Bell touches down in the small town of Dearborn, which boasts the largest mosque in North America, and even smaller nearby Hamtramck, the town with the first majority-Muslim city council in America. In the outskirts of the Detroit Metro area, Kamau immerses himself in a wide range of practitioners of Islam.

  

Episode 5 - Immigrants & Refugees

In the nation's capital and its multicultural suburbs, W. Kamau Bell is steeped in the extraordinary stories of ambitious immigrants to the U.S, as well as those who have escaped to it seeking a safer life. A whirlwind of a trip, his pilgrimage to the area takes him from Gaithersburg, Maryland, which celebrates being the most diverse city in America and to an Alt-Right conference in D.C.

  

Episode 6 - Kamau Buys a Gun

Feeling way too exposed as a public figure with hot-button opinions, crunchy Berkeleyan W. Kamau Bell steps into Second Amendment-land and buys a handgun. In Oakland, he meets with a former Black Panther to hear her take on how California guns laws changed because of her organization.

  

Episode 7 - Chinatown

Chinese Americans are a microcosm of the United States' complicated relationship with its non-white citizens. San Francisco's Chinatown is a perfect launching point for a bigger conversation about what it means to be both American and connected by both bloodline and culture to another country.

  

Episode 8 - Puerto Ricans

The existential crisis of Puerto Rico has been a part of its national character since the United States "won" it as a territory in the Spanish-American war. W. Kamau Bell starts his journey in New York City, which has the highest concentration of Puerto Ricans in the mainland United States.
