Season 3 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Sikhs in America

Taking a suggestion from Twitter usually wouldn't be the smartest thing to do but Kamau does just that, which starts his exploration of one of the more misunderstood religions in America, Sikhism. Kamau travels to Yuba City, California, the Sikh capital of the U.S. and meets with the first female Sikh mayor in the country.

  

Episode 2 - The Disability Community

Remarkably, the disabled community are part of all the economic, geographic, religious and racial groups in America and yet those with disabilities are sometimes forced to remain in the shadows. Kamau intends to open everyone's eyes and talks with disabled activists to find out how the healthcare debate and media portrayals affect their community.

  

Episode 3 - Sweet Home (Mobile) Alabama

While Kamau wears his Bay Area roots proudly, one of the cities he grew up in is Mobile Alabama and in this episode, he goes there to show us his side of the south. His father, former Alabama Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell joins him as they trace their families roots all the way to the unincorporated town his ancestors are from.

  

Episode 4 - HBCUs

Kamau starts his journey at the first HBCU to award diplomas, Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where he gets a front row seat to the art of stepping. He also sits down with CNN frat brother Marc Lamont Hill to discuss the necessary state of HBCU's and how the future is dependent on giving back to these unique institutions.

  

Episode 5 - The Border

After taking a trip with the border patrol and touring the wall, and yes, there's already a wall, Kamau meets with the people who deal with the tragedy that comes from migrants trying to cross these incredibly dangerous deserts. He wraps up his journey by sitting down with the people who were here way before the border existed, the indigenous Tohono O'odham tribe.

  

Episode 6 - The South Carolina Gullah

Kamau learns about a unique community living on the Sea Islands off the coast of Georgia and South Carolina called the Gullah or Gullah Geechee people. They are direct descendants of enslaved Africans and have maintained a culture influenced by West African storytelling, cuisine and language.

  

Episode 7 - Native Hawaii

The sun, the sand, the ocean. These are the images everyone pictures of Hawaii and for good reason. These islands are some of the most beautiful pieces of land that's a part of the United States. But for many native Hawaiians, the fact that they're a part of the U.S. is something that has caused a lot more problems then any amount of tourism can solve.

  

Episode 8 - The Canadian Way

Kamau is headed up north to see if Canada is really that utopian version of the United States everyone says it is. Before he heads up there he meets with friend and comedian Russell Peters who talks about the renaissance his hometown of Toronto is going through which leads to Kamau going there to see for himself.
