Episode 1 - Meet the New Guy

Ponch becomes the training officer of a new rookie, Bobby Nelson, as they try to catch a pair of health-club thieves and find a runaway teenage mother who has stolen back the baby she sold.

  

Episode 2 - Tight Fit

Ponch takes a part-time job as a model for a jeans company, but he finds that he doesn't like being an instant celebrity. He discovers stardom takes him away from his real work, the rewarding job of catching a pair of diamond thieves as well as putting behind bars a sleazy photographer who's been involved in child pornography.

  

Episode 3 - The Spaceman Made Me Do It

Ponch and Bobby are skeptical when they arrest a 12-year-old girl, Jodi, who claims she robbed a jewelry store in order to get diamonds to her extraterrestrial friend, who needed them to fix its spaceship. When Jodi's mother runs off, Ponch gets temporary custody of Jodi, who insists the alien is real, and she wants to go away with it. Meanwhile, the CHP is trying to stop a pair of thieves preying on Japanese tourists.

  

Episode 4 - Rock Devil Rock

Ponch and Bobby's assignment as security guards for Moloch, a satanic rock singer, turns into near tragedy when the singer's car takes on a life of its own, and a taped message states that the devil is going to take him. Bobby thinks it's just a publicity stunt, but Ponch believes the threat is real and questions why Moloch's manager is so unconcerned.

  

Episode 5 - Speedway Fever

Bruce Nelson, Bobby's younger brother, is having difficulty deciding between pursuing a career with the CHP and being a professional motorcycle racer. Ponch and Bobby search for a pair of high-speed thieves who are robbing motorcycle couriers on the freeway. Also, a trio of "valley girls" is fleecing older men for their spending money, but they find themselves in a dangerous situation that they didn't count on.

  

Episode 6 - Something Special

Ponch tries to get a father to accept his mentally retarded son and support the boy's activities in the Special Olympics, while the rest of the "CHiPs" group try to keep motorcycle daredevil Shake Patterson from killing himself by jumping over a flying plane.

  

Episode 7 - This Year's Riot

Ponch and Bobby try to work in a vacation while pulling duty in a beach town during a holiday weekend. They stay with Grossman, his teenage cousin Russell, and several of his friends while trying to catch a drug dealer and mediate between local citizens and those trying to start a nude beach. Julie Newmar guest stars.

  

Episode 8 - Head Over Heels

While attempting to break a case involving a ring of thieves using an answering service as a front, Ponch meets a kindergarten teacher who is campaigning against drunk drivers. They fall deeply in love and Ponch announces their engagement. However, their plans are shattered by a tragic event.

  

Episode 9 - Return to Death's Door

Ponch takes a personal interest in trying to stop illegal racing on Mulholland Drive, since it involves the younger brother of a friend who was killed several years ago in a similar race with Ponch. The young man blames Ponch for the death of his brother and refuses to quit unless Ponch accepts his challenge for one more race. Ellen Geer guest stars.

  

Episode 10 - Fallout

Getraer's daughter, Ellen, is involved in a nuclear plant protest, and he is forced to have her arrested. Ponch and Bobby try to stop a child-beating boyfriend.

  

Episode 11 - Day of the Robot

While some of the CHP personnel are worried that a highly advanced robot is going to replace them, Ponch and Bobby try to convince some "Freeway Angels" to leave police work to the professionals.

  

Episode 12 - Hot Date

Ponch and his flight-attendant girlfriend are captured by two thugs seeking revenge against him and Bobby for catching them breaking into a warehouse. Meanwhile, Bobby and Kathy try to convince two teenage runaways to live in the real world. David Caruso and Phil Silvers guest star.

  

Episode 13 - High Times

Bruce goes undercover in a high school to try to catch a pair of teenage car thieves, but his own safety becomes an issue when they suspect him of being a snitch. Jim Brown and Danny Bonaduce guest star.

  

Episode 14 - Country Action

Ponch finds himself babysitting an orangutan whose owner is in the hospital. The animal is the only one who can identify some modern-day cattle rustlers.

  

Episode 15 - Journey to a Spacecraft

Ponch and Bobby try to find Kevin, a young runaway with a deteriorating liver disease. In an effort to save his life with a transplant, they must first find him among the huge crowd witnessing the landing of a space shuttle. Meanwhile, Kathy closes in on a "dognapping" ring. Astronaut Gordon Cooper guest stars.

  

Episode 16 - Foxtrap

Ponch and Bobby have their hands full trying to catch an international jewel thief and keep three beautiful rock 'n' roll singers from being kidnapped by a sex slave ring in Asia. Laura Branigan guest stars.

  

Episode 17 - Brat Patrol

Following a motorcycle accident, Ponch accepts a light duty assignment to keep from going stir crazy, only to find that he's to be the new advisor to the Explorers troop, which is comprised of a band of misfits. Meanwhile, Bruce and Kathy try to stop a drug dealer who's been terrorizing the neighborhood.

  

Episode 18 - Firepower

Ponch and Bobby go undercover disguised as outlaw bikers in an effort to catch a pair of illegal weapons hijackers. Bruce falls for a female biker he's racing against.

  

Episode 19 - Fun House

Getraer reluctantly agrees to help clear members of his former college fraternity who are accused of stealing campus typewriters and computers--until a canister of deadly virus is missing. A woman who lost her own child kidnaps an eight-year-old and heads towards Mexico before she is caught by CHP officers.

  

Episode 20 - Fast Company

Bruce gets promoted to patrolman with Ponch as his training officer, and the two of them find themselves the target of a desert sheriff who's trying to cover up his involvement in drug dealing. Meanwhile, the CHP personnel must baby-sit the captain's grandson.

  

Episode 21 - Things That Go Creep in the Night

A comic book monster seemingly comes to life to terrorize a young woman, and Ponch and Bruce's only clue is the creator of the creature, a very odd individual. The girl is found at the scene of an accident, and CHP officers help her search for her mother. Rich Little guest stars.

  

Episode 22 - Return of the Brat Patrol

Getraer's new car is stolen, and Ponch is saddled with trying to whip the Police Explorer Scouts into a winning basketball team--minus his star player due to bad grades.
