Season 3 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Biology 101

Jeff gets kicked out of the group’s Biology class by their reformed prisoner teacher. Pierce who was out of the group takes Jeff’s spot and gets reinstated. Jeff can’t get back into the class and slowly starts to go crazy without the study group. Eventually he takes the high road and allows Pierce to keep his spot in the class and vows to get back into the class and into the group on his own merits. Britta and Troy help Abed cope with his favorite show pushing to midseason. The dean discovers Greendale’s Air Conditioning annex makes 80% of the school’s money and their evil dean is more powerful than he is. Chang joins campus security for room and board when the dean is forced to cut the school's budget.


Episode 2 - Geography of Global Conflict

As Annie (Alison Brie) competes with an overachieving rival in a Model United Nations competition, Jeff (Joel McHale) wrestles with his feelings for his ambitious friend. Meanwhile, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) finds herself at odds with Chang (Ken Jeong) when she is torn between her newly conventional life and her rebellious past.


Episode 3 - Competitive Ecology

The study group struggles to incorporate a fellow classmate while working on a project for Professor Kane’s (guest star Michael K. Williams) class. Meanwhile, Chang (Ken Jeong) causes a fire while trying to solve a strange mystery of his own making.


Episode 4 - Remedial Chaos Theory

When Jeff (Joel McHale) introduces an element of randomness into Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed’s (Danny Pudi) housewarming party, reality splits into six timelines in which the group’s complicated relationships play out in different ways.


Episode 5 - Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps!

When Britta (Gillian Jacobs) finds that an anonymous personality test suggests that one of them is a homicidal maniac, the study group members use a series of scary Halloween stories to expose the killer.


Episode 6 - Advanced Gay

When a drag queen’s song makes Hawthorne Wipes an iconic gay product, Pierce (Chevy Chase) embraces it – until his homophobic dad Cornelius (guest star Larry Cedar) shows up to squelch the idea. Meanwhile, Vice Dean Laybourne (guest star John Goodman) recruits Troy (Donald Glover) for his air conditioning repair school.


Episode 7 - Studies in Modern Movement

Annie (Alison Brie) has second thoughts about moving in with Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) once she realizes that they expect her to live in a blanket fort. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) tells his friends he is sick in order to get out of helping with the move, only to be blackmailed by Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) into spending the day with him.


Episode 8 - Documentary Filmmaking: Redux

As Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) films an updated commercial for Greendale, the production takes a wild turn once he discovers that a famous Greendale alum has agreed to appear in the ad. Meanwhile, Abed (Danny Pudi) decides to make a documentary of the proceedings, while Pierce (Chevy Chase) locks himself in a rented trailer in protest of the low budget nature of the project. Guest starring Luis Guzman.


Episode 9 - Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism

When Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) agrees to coach Jeff (Joel McHale) in foosball, they realize that she bullied him mercilessly when they were kids. And after she breaks Abed’s (Danny Pudi) limited edition Dark Knight DVD, Annie (Alison Brie) goes to great lengths to cover up her mistake.


Episode 10 - Regional Holiday Music

The study group is slowly convinced to fill in for the Glee Club at Greendale’s Christmas pageant after Abed (Danny Pudi) decides he wants them to spend the holiday together.


Episode 11 - Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts

When Shirley’s (Yvette Nicole Brown) remarriage to Andre (guest star Malcolm-Jamal Warner) threatens to put her dreams of starting a business with Pierce (Chevy Chase) on hold, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) takes over and discovers, much to her chagrin, that she is a gifted wedding planner. Meanwhile, Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) purge themselves of weirdness so they can behave normally on Shirley’s big day.


Episode 12 - Contemporary Impressionists

The study group must work as celebrity impersonators at a bar mitzvah to pay off Abed’s (Danny Pudi) debt to a talent agency owner (guest star French Stewart), while Troy (Donald Glover) struggles with how to deal with his best friend’s loose grasp of reality. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) battles his growing ego after being prescribed anti-anxiety medication.


Episode 13 - Digital Exploration of Interior Design

When Britta (Gillian Jacobs) falls for the human embodiment of the Subway sandwich chain, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Pierce (Chevy Chase) hope to use the situation to their advantage. And while Jeff (Joel McHale) worries about having offending a student who subsequently died, Vice Dean Laybourne (guest star John Goodman) sows discontent between Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi).


Episode 14 - Pillows and Blankets

The students of Greendale are drawn into an epic pillow fight as Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) start a war that threatens to destroy their unique friendship. And even though Jeff (Joel McHale) initially takes advantage of the fighting to avoid going to class, he eventually realizes that he would do anything to keep his friends together.


Episode 15 - Origins of Vampire Mythology

When a carnival comes to Greendale, Annie (Alison Brie) goes to great lengths to make sure that Britta (Gillian Jacobs) doesn’t contact her carnival worker ex-boyfriend. And as Jeff (Joel McHale) tries to figure out why Britta’s ex has so much power over her, Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Chang (Ken Jeong) become best friends. Guest starring John Goodman.


Episode 16 - Virtual Systems Analysis

After sending Troy (Donald Glover) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) on a date, Annie (Alison Brie) volunteers to keep Abed (Danny Pudi) company in his Dreamatorium. But when she uses the fantasy to try to force Abed to be more empathetic, his personality fractures into dream versions of all their friends.


Episode 17 - Basic Lupine Urology

When the yam the study group was growing for biology class is killed, Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) are on the case. Once they pin the crime on Todd (guest star David Neher), Annie (Alison Brie) and Jeff (Joel McHale) team up to argue their case to the class. Guest starring Michael Kenneth Williams and Leslie Hendrix.


Episode 18 - Course Listing Unavailable

The group reacts to Starburn’s death and they offer to have a memorial for him. Jeff could not care less until he learns that Professor Kane has quit in shame over Starburn’s death and they have to retake Biology over the summer. This activates Jeff to organize a protest/wake for Starburns. It quickly turns into the group blasting the Dean for all his faults and blows up into a full on revolt. The school board gets pissed about the riot and calls a meeting with the Dean. Jeff agrees this has gone too far and agrees to back the Dean at the board meeting. At the meeting Chang’s imposter dean throws the group under the bus and they get expelled from Greendale. Chang tries to overthrow the Dean when he allows him Chang to have marshal law on campus. The Dean fires him. Chang knocks out the Dean and replaces him with “Fauxby”. Britta tries and fails to help the group cope with their feelings about Starburn’s death.


Episode 19 - Curriculum Unavailable

A couple weeks after the group is expelled from Greendale, Abed starts to go insane and is busted by the cops for going through the Dean's trash. He is recommended to go to therapy and the rest of the group joins him for support. Through a series of flashbacks the therapists diagnoses Abed and whole group as insane and drops the bomb that there was never a Greendale in the first place. They have all been locked up in a mental institution their entire time at Greendale. Jeff quickly realizes the therapist is a lying quack and forces him to reveal that he's been working for Chang to get the group of his scent of deposing the Dean. This activates the group to go back to Greendale to reclaim their enrollment at school.


Episode 20 - Digital Estate Planning

Pierce gets his inheritance from his dead father and learns that he has secretly been working on a videogame that when you win it unlocks his full inheritance. He and the group go to play the game and help win him his inheritance, but are thwarted by his father’s old assistant Gilbert who is a master at the game and wants the inheritance for himself. The group unites to take down Gilbert, but he’s too powerful. Gilbert ends up getting to the final level only to have Pierce’s father tell him he’s not worthy. We discover that Gilbert is Pierce’s half brother and the group helps him finally win the inheritance. Abed falls in love with video game character inside the game.


Episode 21 - First Chang Dynasty

The group realizes they have to take down Chang themselves in a caper. Chang is running Greendale into the ground, but board thinks he’s doing a great job because of lies. It’s his birthday and the group surveys the campus. Troy reaches out to the AC school for help, they won’t help unless they can have Troy. He turns the AC people down. They break into Chang’s birthday gala with classic caper beats. The get to the room where the Dean is being held and they get caught. They get imprisoned. Chang tells them he’s going to burn down the school to cover up his mess. The group manages to escape and gets into a razor scooter chase with Chang’s kid minions. Chang escapes at the last minute and the board realizes everything has been a lie. They put the Dean back in power to clean up the mess Chang made and the group is reinstated at Greendale. Because they ended up getting help from the AC school Troy has to leave the group to join them.


Episode 22 - Introduction to Finality

Shirley and Pierce learn that their sandwich shop will get put in the cafeteria. They instantly fight over who’s name will be on the lease and it escalates to Pierce suing Shirley and taking her to court. Jeff steps into be Shirley’s attorney and Alan Conner (Jeff’s former co-worker) represents Pierce. Alan asks Jeff to throw the case to get his old job back at the law firm when he graduates. Shirley allows him to, but her selflessness makes him realize that his friends are more important and his brilliant closing argument causes Pierce to drop the suit. Britta tries to be Abed’s therapist to help cope with the loss of Troy to the AC school, but the therapy brings out Evil Abed. He makes Britta cry and tries to make his dark timeline a reality. He goes to cut off Jeff’s arm (per the dark timeline) but Jeff’s impassioned closing argument snaps the real Abed back. Dean Laybourne takes Troy under his wing at the AC school, but Troy is incredibly bored. Laybourne gets killed in a freak AC accident and Troy smells something fishy. Instead of leaving the trade school he stays and challenges Murray (Laybourne’s former underling) to an ancient AC competition. He beats Murray and learns that he’s the one who killed Laybourne.
