Season 3 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Skin Deep

A sleazy photographer is stabbed to death with scissors in his own studio. Examination of the deceased's appointment book leads Detectives Ceretta and Logan to a local modeling agency - and more than a few disgruntled models. Claire Danes (Polish Wedding) and Murphy Guyer (The Devil's Advocate) guest star.

  

Episode 2 - Conspiracy

Detectives Logan (Chris Noth) and Cerreta (Paul Sorvino) confront racial hate when they investigate the assassination of an African-American political party leader at a Harlem rally. Witnesses agree that a white man holding a gun fled the auditorium, but no one saw him pull the trigger.

  

Episode 3 - Forgiveness

Beth Migram, an Italy-bound college student leaves her bon voyage party, but is later found with a crushed skull. A bloody lead pipe near her body leads Detectives Cerreta (Paul Sorvino) and Logan (Chris Noth) to the girl's friends and family -- many of whom were present at the going away party.

  

Episode 4 - The Corporate Veil

A seventeen-year-old suffers a heart attack while driving and plows into a crowded city park. Detectives trace the death to a defective pacemaker and a fraudulent salesman. But the real issue for the D.A.'s office is whether or not to prosecute the technician, the salesman, the doctor or the manufactuer. Harriet Sansom Harris (Frasier) guest stars.

  

Episode 5 - Wedded Bliss

An unidentified female body is found in the bay near the garment district, leading detectives in the tough position of getting the many illegal immigrants in the are to speak up about what may have happened. The victim is finally traced back to an illegal sweat shop, but without any murder suspects the DAs turn to a 100-year-old slavery case in order to prosecute.

  

Episode 6 - Helpless

When a respected gynecologist crosses the line during an exam, Dr. Olivet (Carolyn McCormick) wants to press charges. Upon further investigation, Cerreta (Paul Sorvino) and Logan (Chris Noth) discover that the accused doctor is a modern-day sadist whose kinky sexual habits drove his wife to suicide.

  

Episode 7 - Self-Defense

Two brothers, with a shared history of arrests for theft and assault, are shot down in a downtown shopping area. The shooter, an immigrant owner of a local shop, claims self-defense; however, detectives reenact the crime and uncover the real motive. Adam Arkin (Chicago Hope) guest stars.

  

Episode 8 - Prince of Darkness

Detectives Ceretta (Paul Sorvino) and Logan (Chris Noth) tie the murder of a wealthy business man to the Colombian drug cartel. During their investigation, Ceretta sets up a buy with a notorious gun dealer, but is shot twice in the chest when the deal goes horribly wrong.

  

Episode 9 - Point of View

While Detective Ceretta (Paul Sorvino) recovers from a gunshot wound suffered in the line of duty, and reevaluates his future in law enforcement, Logan (Chris Noth) is partnered with Detective Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach, Dirty Dancing). Logan and Briscoe put their tensions aside to find out if a "self-defense" killing was really just revenge. Later, much to Logan's disappointment, Ceretta announces he's quitting the force.

  

Episode 10 - Consultation

When a young, pregnant Nigerian girl goes into fatal convulsions, 20 heroin-filled condoms are found in her stomach. Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Logan (Chris Noth) must track down those responsible for the drugs and consequently the girl's murder. But can the D.A.'s office make charges stick when the culprit is a Nigerian Tribal Chief?

  

Episode 11 - Extended Family

After the 5-year-old daughter of a famous Broadway producer is kidnapped from a department store, Detectives Logan (Chris Noth) and Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) are called to investigate. After several unsuccessful leads, the case takes a bizarre twist when the girl's mother emerges with claims that her producer husband has been molesting their daughter.

  

Episode 12 - Right to Counsel

An elderly woman, whose estate was valued at over 25 million dollars, is found murdered and suspicion immediately falls onto her young, troubled lover. However, after the lover accepts a plea bargain, ADAs Stone and Robinette find his accounts of the murder totally inconsistent with the evidence - forcing the prosecutors to ask Detectives Briscoe and Logan to reexamine the case. Richard Cox (Sliders) guest stars.

  

Episode 13 - Night and Fog

The elderly wife of a Polish immigrant Jew is mysteriously found dead after uncovering the truth about her husband's past as a Nazi criminal. Her husband claims he helped her commit suicide, but coincidences and connections between the victim and a Jewish war criminal reveal a more complicated scenario. Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio) guest stars.

  

Episode 14 - Promises to Keep

The ethical liability of a psychiatrist comes into question when a murder victim is traced back to one of the doctor's patients. It seems the doctor and the patient became sexually involved, the girlfriend found out about the affair, and the patient went off the deep end. But did the therapist give him a little push? Lindsay Crouse (The Insider) guest stars.

  

Episode 15 - Mother Love

A brutal murder in a tenement leaves a young black woman, once voted Most Likely to Succeed, dead and her shady crack-dealing boyfriend as suspect number one. Although Stone and Robinette have a solid case, the boyfriend refuses to plea bargain - which causes the ADAs and detectives to dig a little deeper into the woman's past. Edie Falco (The Sopranos) guest stars.

  

Episode 16 - Jurisdiction

Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Logan (Chris Noth) team up with a Brooklyn precinct to work on the homicide of a female nursing student. What they soon learn is that the Brooklyn police and assistant D.A. are abusive when it comes to interrogating mentally retarded former patients of the victim. Michael Moriarity and Richard Brooks also star.

  

Episode 17 - Conduct Unbecoming

On the heels of the Tail Hook scandal, a female Navy Lieutenant is murdered, her naked body left in the middle of a Navy officers' celebration. The many witnesses, most of them Navy personnel, claim to have seen nothing suspicious. Detectives and prosecutors soon uncover a coverup that reaches the highest ranks. Len Cariou (Thirteen Days) and Julianna Margulies (ER) guest star.

  

Episode 18 - Animal Instinct

When a world-renowned genetic research scientist is murdered, an aggressive group of animal rights activisits seems the right place to start looking for suspects. Further investigation, however, leads detectives into the troubled marriage of the late scientist -- and her husband's alleged mistress. Frances Fisher (Titanic) guest stars.

  

Episode 19 - Computer Virus

When a number of diabetes patients at the highly regarded Hogan Clinic go into hypoglycemic shock resulting in comas or death, Briscoe and Logan investigate possible causes. A computer virus in the system which monitors patients' blood sugar levels is traced to a former patient with a grudge.

  

Episode 20 - Securitate

A local business owner is shot and dragged behind a speeding car, but detectives soon rule out a carjacking. Briscoe and Logan uncover a credit card scam being run out of the victim's furniture store and interviews with fellow employees reveal that the victim was about to report the illegal operation. Stone and Robinette are left to weed out the killer from a number of guilty family members. Jorjan Fox (CSI) and Alan King (Casino) guest star.

  

Episode 21 - Manhood

When his backup arrives too late, a cop - who happens to be gay - is killed by a cornered drug dealer. When Briscoe and Logan finallly capture the suspect, he says there was a police car parked a block away from the crime scene. Did the victim's fellow officers set him up because he was gay?

  

Episode 22 - Benevolence

A young, independent deaf woman is murdered, but what is it her scorned lover or her obsessed mentor? Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Logan (Chris Noth) scour phone transcripts, while forensics narrows the search. It's up to prosectors Stone (Michael Moriarity) and Robinette (Richard Brooks) to persuade the truth out of the victim's mentor, the founder of a local institute for the deaf.
